SO if this rumor is true, that means that we will be seeing a V6 engine from BMW in the F3X 3-series. We all know that the chances of this happening are very slim, so I think that this rumor is just that, a rumor.

2 Turbos 6 Cylinders seems to be the consensus. Watch ///M bring out a powerful FI wankel engine and iron out the ridiculous MPG and oil consumption that plagued lesser manufacturers.

Is the BMW 4.4 liter V8 twin turbo in M5 or X6M or X5M a flat plane crank. Because they are more of the high revving type and make more nicer sound. Not to mention their response is much quicker.

I wonder does the same apply to V6's if they are modeled after V8's.

BMW will do what they need to in order to stay competitive and profitable. If they cared about sticking with tradition, we wouldn't have automatic turbocharged M SUVs or a FWD model coming.

However I still don't think we'll see a V6 anytime soon.

I only wish they'd applied the same sentiment when it came to switching from hydraulic to electric assist steering in their non-M cars.

I heard that BMW has a surplus of F1 engines so they are gonna throw these into the new M3... but since it wont be a inline 6 its gonna be crap right?

Same doubters for the twin turbo BMWs will be doubters when this cars specs are announced. I'll hold my judgement until I get behind the wheel. No amount of specs, numbers, layouts, etc can ever tell you how the car makes you feel when you drive it. And that's the MOST important factor.

Q: There are rumors that BMW is working on a V-6.
A: V6's to us are like chopped up V8s. No, we are not working on any V6's.

Awesome write-up and congrats on what looks like a flawless system!

In your opinion from looking at the two Section 1's side by side... Are they the same?
Does it look like the Euro one is in any way beefier or have a greater cell count?

To my infos the M-GmbH change their engine choise from an I6 N54/55 derivative to an V6 based on the M5 S63 V8 simply because an engine based on the N54/55 with the needed 450+ HP doesn´t fullfill the reliability requirements that BMW has to an engine that they are bringing on the Markt.

BMW/M-GmbH is an Manufacturer and no aftermarket tuner!

I think if this engine becomes real it would be an M-GmbH and an M3 on and only engine design ... doesn´t change BMW preference for I6 (Turbo!)!

I'm all open to new ideas from BMW

The truth is that on 91 octane the current N54 I-6 can't exceed 400hp reliably, and this is speaking from reading many of the N54 tech board messages. It can probably do it with bigger turbos, but this would increase lag. Maybe 3 turbos could solve this problem on a 3.0l I-6 ?

A little more displacement is needed for 450hp. 3.3 liters sound about right. The V6 would also provide better sound compared to an inline-6.

I wish the N54 would live on though
