M3 and M4 Coupe compared side by side with the 3 Sedan and 4 Coupe

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I did not have what to do earlier and being so curios about what the differences are between the M4 and 4 Series Coupe with the M Pack on it and the M3 and 3 Sedan with the M pack on it, I did some print screens and put them together side by side.

I captured the images from bmw.com, used white for all of them, unfortunately for the 3 series Sedan it has the double pipe exhaust on the left side of the car.

Good job. BMW made them look too similar from the front view

Great idea OP for starting this thread

I have done a similar exercise a few weeks back for the M4 vs the 435i MSport. Here are my screen shots from the Belgian configurator:

I do think that the M4 looks much beefier and more aggressive than the 435i

Great basis for comparison. The subtleties of an M car vs. series car is something I personally enjoy.

Although, I've never been a fan of these "official" cartooned-type images that all car companies are using (such as the one's on configurators). I feel like they never compliment the car and that they actually do the opposite.

With respect to the non-car enthusiasts, they won't be able to tell the difference.

Then again, that's always been the case.

Enthusiasts will easily be able to differentiate the two. The more you have an eye for a particular brand, the easier it is to distinguish the models.

Thanks for putting these comparisons together!

The M3 vs. 3-series front and back shots aren't to scale. Makes the M3 seem smaller than the non-M 3.

Rest of the shots are great. Thanks for putting this together.

There you go:

IMO, there is more difference between the 335i and M3 than there is between the 435i and M4.

Great work this. Surprised that the for me there is a much bigger change from 3 series to M3 than 4 series to M4. Therefore 4 series looks better in 'plain' MSport config.

Same here although I'm happy since I got M3 on order.

look at how wide and aggressive the M4 looks ) !!

F80 is gorgeous. but at the end of the day, real sport cars IMO, are coupes. IMO chillax

F82 BABY!

And I could care less what "others" think of the car nor whether or not they can tell the difference. Its my car and thats all that matters. And the chicks that are looking at you driving it, are looking more into the person's wallet that is driving the car as opposed to the car itself. -- Southern California women at least. i.e. middle eastern chicks. Stay away. Run away. Duck and Hide.

I never understood why people get so concerned over which looks less like a standard 3 or 4 series. Both cars have very subtle differences that set them apart. That always has been the case with m3's and this generation is no different. At the end of the day, all of those subtle differences make both cars look amazing and it's very clear that both are special, and not your every day 3 or 4.

I agree, looking at these respond make me laugh, when was a m3 that much different then it's little brother. At the end of the day an M3 has been a jazzed up 3 series. It's the sum of all these little subtle differences is what make these M car special.

+1. The fact of the matter is this - people that know about cars will know, those that don't won't care anyway.

Question Maybe it is just on the pictures

but it seems like the callipers change position enough to require new mounting points. Or am I just seeing things?

They will, it's not the same on the M as a regular 4/3 series.

Some things may look similar in the 2 cars but one thing or sure behind the wheel it will feel and sound like a world of difference. Comparing the 2 appearance is just enough for it to show how much better looking M cars are in general.

Nice to see the AW/MW cars with black and silver wheels side by side. These pictures strengthened my current choice of going M4 and in MW with silver wheels. I still hope I get to see these cars before ordering. I made another trip to the dealer the other day which made it crystal clear that I vastly prefer the looks of the M-sport 4 over the M-sport 3 but the F80 looks great in pix so it's not a done deal just yet for me.
