Was 3300 lbs a US figure? I have a feeling US spec cars weigh more. The new Alfa 4c gained 300 pounds coming to the states. What ever federally mandated BS we have may have affected the M3?

The F8x is larger and more powerful, and weighs less than the outgoing E9x. But hey...lets find something to complain about!
I guess I am just so happy going from a 4400 lb F10 to a 3600 lb F80! |

Disappointing: real-world weight
But at the end of the day, the F8X weights about the same or in some instances lighter but is is a more powerful car so should be a win regardless. Curious to see what the next-gen C63 AMG is going to weight at. IIRC, Mercedes was touting some serious weight reduction. |

Hate to say it, but I told you so. Car is still very heavy…but overall the car got slightly bigger so good job in not gaining weight, but still a very heavy car given the massive amount of weight saving areas and materials they used, and once again ///Marketing fooled many people.
Im wondering the same. Out federal laws require certain things when sold here so this car could weigh even more IF this isn't a US production car. Last edited by Wolfinwolfsclothing; 04-19-2014 at 11:35 AM.. |

Hello there... seriously folks, a 4 door that weighs a little less than the previous 2 door, that's not bad, right?.
Wish I could convey how this car pulls... also, seats are great, best BMW seats to date.

I'm just happy BMW has reversed a long standing trend and the weight is down somewhat. That the car is more powerful and slightly larger in this context is icing on the cake.

How is this in any way or form good news? We already know that the car is lighter than the E90 M3, that is not news. In fact we have official weight numbers in all standards. All pointing to the same 80kg / 176lbs weight savings over the old car. Now we have real world numbers pointing to less than half of that with similar equipment. Very disappointing. Granted there is still question marks over the overall equipment level and real weight of the new DCT vs the old.

little off topic, but what would you estimate a cayman or 911 would show with a full tank of gas on these scales?

At the end of the day the F80 weighed 170lbs less than the E90 M3 on the same scales which is roughly what BMW quoted. This was lighter than an E92 3 series on the same scales which I find impressive.
Note the key fact here is ' the same scales'. It is pointless saying I've seen an E9x M3 weigh xxxx on a thread or on different scales or my E9x weighs xxxx. The scales used here may be incorrect and read high, or not - it doesn't matter - the F80 was 170lbs lighter than the previous model. Even when you add DCT to the F80 you are looking at a 100lb weight reduction. I'm sure in time when magazines get their hands on these cars we will see the true weight.
