Is 500 miles too early for Break In Service?

I bought a 2018 M3 this month (April 1). The car had been sitting on the dealer lot since October and I pulled away with 25 miles on the odometer.

The car said it needed a new battery. I brought it into the service center with 501 miles on the odometer (they currently have the car) and the advisor took the key said it was also due to for the 1200 mile break in service.

Isn't 500 miles too early for the break in service? Should I contact them and stop them from doing the work, drive it reasonably hard, and bring it back?

Yes, do the break-in after 1200 miles per the instructions. The differential needs more time to break in.

Yes why do you want to rush it, a car is a complex machine with a lot of components, gears, ... that work together. There is a reason why there is a break in service so that you give everything the time to settle in. Even after the break-in period I would drive the car dynamically the first thousands of kilometers, this means a combination of short + long distances, combination of high rpm, low rpm, combination of roads, straight roads + corners, …

For example do not use the break-in period to drive hundreds of kilometers on the highway.

I agree with everything you all are saying. I'll just repeat the break in service after 1000 miles. Thanks.
