I understand, looking at performance numbers, that these 2 are comparable. That's about where it ends. Don't get me wrong I love BMWs and have a great appreciation for the M Division but when it comes to refinement and being a true luxury sports car, I would have to say Porsche wins (of course this comes at a premium price).

Mind you the m3 and the backseats of the m4 are far more useable (also trunk space is better) but a 911 is a wonderful daily driver. After sitting in the new m3 this past weekend I can say that although much of the interior is an improvement over the e9xs the build quality of my 997 interior was nicer (IMHO). I also enjoyed the drive/feel of my car more (how I miss the hydrolic steering of the e9xs) and is part of the reason I did not go with a 991 (waiting to see what improvements come with the 991.2).

As mentioned before and as it as always been the m3/m4 give you a lot of performance for the money (especially given the steep prices of the new 991). But Porsche is not just about performance figures (plus we are talking about the base model) and if that is what you are after they do provide a few options for you to choose from (if you want a track fiend find a GT2/3 or for straight line speed a Turbo S). I don't imagine many 911 owners are looking over at an m3/m4 wishing that was their car (though I hope like me they can appreciate the car for what it is). But I dare say there will be a good few m3/m4 owners that pull up next to a 911 wishing they were driving that instead.

And this is why you don't compare 2 seat and 4 seat cars... simple as that.

Compare this car to a C63, ISF and the likes of an RS4.

The only true Porsche comparison to the new m4 is a Porsche 914. MAYBE a 944 turbo.

Anything else is just bullshit.

I actually love how in this comparison, if you exclude "features" and rear seat complaints, the Porsche crushed the M4.

I drove a base Carrera a few weeks back wasn't that impressed.... I would definitely need a 991s or a gt3 to be happy

Honestly...No sh*t the 911 has no rear leg room.
Totally agree. So basically the M4 won cause it has more rear seat leg room and space. If you look at the other ratings like for chassis, 911 kicks the m4 butt.

Before the flames of M4post reign on me, left me clarify that the 911 gains more points then the M4 in categories like performance, steering, braking, handling, ride, etc. Things we like in our performance cars, right?

Very odd they gave a higher score for rear space for the 997. While actually the 991 has more rear space, with its lengthened wheelbase.

11's? C&D tested in at 12.1 and 119 so how do you see it being 11's? Unless you mean 11.9 or something..

Real life owners of the C7 have achieved better times in the 1/4 than most of the magazines... some as low as 11.6s. I would bet that the M3/4 get into the high 11's in the right conditions when a bunch of them get to the strip.

Not really relevant IMO. Besides, the 991 is WAY better than the 997.
Don't try to argue with them. They are immune to logic, reason or anything else.

The car won, new porsche better than old, but M4 still better all around car. The boo-birds come out, as ever.

They started about talking how fast the Corvette C7 is and this time is done by the same magazine so i thought it had some relevance.

Yup. Real life owners in cold air and great DA with enough drag strip experience will almost always put up better times than the magazines.

Just got the issue tonight. Feel free to append this into the OP. Some of the missing pages are due to ads. On page 2 at the bottom: “C/D observed MPG for the M4” should read 22.

I was kinda hoping the 911 had a PDK so its acceleration numbers would be better, but the M4 is the quicker car regardless.

He must be talking about owners that have been running in the mid 11's. Best 1/4 so far bone stock with stock tires is 11.49.
