Time Constraints on Spec Changes

Hey guys, my order was submitted a while back and production is scheduled for late January. The unusually long period between order and production is due to my Individual paint request. I decided yesterday to switch from DCT to 6MT. My SA emailed my request and is waiting to hear back.

Will this be a problem and what is the normal cutoff to change specs, for anyone else having last minute changes?

Thank you

I sampled the manual on a friend's car all day and remembered how much fun it was to row. No doubt DCT is the faster/better tranny that I could never duplicate with my feet. Also I have plans to add power and the 6MT is a simpler system to upgrade if needed.

I'm not sure how many more generations of the M3/4 will be offered in manual, so I'll take the option now.

I feel ya. I wonder every day if ill regret DCT. And I wondered every day if I would regret manual when it was that way. Both have their pluses for sure.

First world problems. I had a E92 with an ESS 585 kit DCT. Got me in A LOT of trouble, which is always fun

I know the f82 manual is highly upgraded and i had a short chance to test drive one. I liked it and ordered it originally.

With that said i had an e9x in both 6mt and DCT and I much prefered the DCT car. I liked the manual while I had it but when I went from the 08 to the 11 with DCT it was magic. Maybe Im a bad 6mt driver .

Ask your dealer what phase the car is in, from what I know if it hasn't reached 112 or higher you are good and you can make as many changes as you'd like.

Props for going with the manual!!

the manual and dct option is a tough choice, I wrestled with it but went DCT.. this will be my first non-manual car! I had alot of seat time behind the DCT and really learned how amazing it is in aggressive driving.

My dealer said you can make changes all the way until production starts. I'd expect some lag time for communication though. I would think you'd be fine for a late January ED given 15 days for production.

I believe, based on recent experience, that you can make a change three days before production starts. However, I think when they give you a production week info that is the week production is expected to be completed. So, the safe bet is two weeks prior to your production week to make last minute changes.

Having been through this nightmare personally, I know more than I should.

You can make changes while the car is in 111 status, no-brainer. You can also make changes while the car is in 112 status with no issues. When the car goes to 150 status, you have 24 hours or less, but it's hit or miss. Dealer has to call them at this point, order screen gets locked when the car goes into 150. Given that your car is scheduled for Production in January, you will have no issues switching to 6MT!

I missed the boat on all these statuses, and decided 3 days after my car went into 150 that I want 6MT. They couldn't obviously do that, but BMW NA was nice enough to give me a build spot with priority 1 (customer sold) for my 6MT order.
