When will the G80 M3 waiting list start?

Approximately how early does the waiting list and deposit start for a new model? I have set my mind and concluded that the next generation M3 will be my next car. Also, what does "LCI" mean as a few of my buddies said they are going to wait it out a bit and get the LCI model. Thanks for your time

It all depends on your dealer. If you're willing to put down a deposit early enough, hell, they might even take it now. Generally though it's around 1 year out.

As for LCI, that means Life Cycle Impulse. It's BMW's name for the mid-lifecycle refresh that happens to most car companies. This is usually 3 years after initial release so your friend will be waiting a while. What you get if you wait is the "final look" for the car. Upgraded headlights and tail lights, small interior changes, generally newer iDrive, etc. What most people prefer waiting for is the Competition Package that comes around the second model year, but now with the product lineup changing and there being CS and CSL models not sure at what rate they'll release them for the GXX generation.

Got it, thank you very much. So the competition package usually comes out around 2-3 years after the initial release?

Not to sound rude but the next model is coming out no earlier than 2020 or 2021 so are you actually serious about your question?

OP, don't listen to these jokesters. In reality, you'll want to skip both the F80 and G80 generations. What you really want to get into is the H05 generation M3 - it's going to have water injected afterburners, 6 wheel drive, but rear when you want it, a 1 speed manual transmission for no lost time between shifts. Possible LCI rumors say flux capacitor as a (big) upcharge item, but I'm game as long as it's less money than the composite gold/titanium hood is rumored to run.

Anyway, happy waiting

(There's always going to be another "Best" thing. Get what you like and when you can, why lose enjoyment time worrying about what's possibly coming later)

OP lease a current M3 ZCP for 3 years now, which will position your G80 for the 2nd year of production. You'll be most likely paying full MRSP for the 1st model year G80, as you probably don't have a strong relationship with a CA. But, by leasing a 2018 M3 you can get invoice over pricing for '18 and another strong deal for the G80 by staying with the same CA. Why wait? Enjoy life in the present as you don't know what the future will hold. Traditionally there has been at a minimum a 2 year + gap from when the regular series car is available to the M series, your looking at a 3+ year wait.

Pardon my ignorance but does this mean there will be no M3 between F80 EOP in 2018 and when the G80 starts production sometime maybe in 2020 or 2021?

I currently have a 2015 F80, and my lease ends in June 2018, so I plan to place an order for a 2018 F80 in March...I know I can’t pull ahead, so keeping my fingers crossed I can still get a decent deal 4 months from now

That's correct. M4 production will continue for a while however.
