Winter tires - 18" or 19"

Hi,

Here in GTA, do you most of you guys run 18" or 19" wheels for your winters on the F8x?

I'm using the BMW 640M 18" wheels. Work well and nice to have a bit more sidewall on tires in winter versus 19".

18 square on BBS rims and 225/45 Hakkapelita R2

Yes, 225.

Looks awful from the rear but works very well thus far.

I have OEM 18" BMW Style 260M with 235/255 staggered Bridgestone Blizzaks.

With the right spacers, doesn't look bad at all.

So far they have been exactly what I wanted. No compromise on dry roads, and good snow performance.

I got them from VAG Motorsport in Laval, Quebec.

Great service, fully bilingual and I'm pretty sure they ship cross provinces.

How are these in the dry and in comparison to Blizzaks? Do they last as long?

18x8 BBS SR’s in the Machined w/ Matte Granite finish wrapped in 245/40R18 front and 245/45R18 Nokkian Hakka R2 tires. Got 10mm spacers all around as well. Have the wheels but not the car as yet so can't comment on how they are as yet!

On dry roads they dont feel much different then my summer tires to be honest. They are really great if you want a tire that doesnt feel like a winter tire (which is what I wanted). Tire wear remains to be seen because Ive only had them a couple week.s

Once I see more reviews on these here, I want to try a set of the Nokkian Hakka R2 255/45 all around.

http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1198440

The OP in the above link didn't seem to like them in the dry and that's my only concern because the main roads seem to get cleared right away, nowadays in the GTA.

Right now running Lm32 blizzaks and should be good for this winter & next.

The person that did the review from the link you posted is spot on. The R2s aren't great on the dry and are like marshmallow (much worse) when temperature goes above freezing.

See my first day out impressions in real snow here: http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1334044

My goal was to have the best tire in heavy snow conditions. I was willing to deal with the drawbacks when driving on dry pavement.

Is it worth upgrading to the Sottozero 3 in 19s or sticking with SZ W240s for the 18s? $400 price difference from Simply. Seems to be good reviews on both and the PA4 is sold out...
