To me it sounds like those who have the MAGPro2 X17 will still need to buy the cable (which appears to cost £145.00 for them) in order to be able to enable OBD unlock.

The product purchase page makes me think all you need is the cable, a computer, and an internet connection:

There's also two X17 tools (master/slave). I don't understand the difference but it seems the master already comes with the BMW ENET cable.

There have been a lot of flashing via OBD rumors recently. I'm really hoping this is true. If so, it should make it easy for BM3, HEX, etc to offer their tunes through any shop that owns one of these cables.
From the post below I guess you do need an X17 as I expected.

So you need to find a tuner who has a magic motorsport magpro2 X17 flashing tool

That makes sense. I thought it would have been a less than ideal business decision to sell something that would cannibalize a more expensive product.

Too bad this probably won't change the landscape for a while

I could be misunderstanding things (or just wishful thinking), but the way I'm seeing this is that the tuning company's dealers will be picking this up. The tuning companies will write the tune to be flashed by the new handheld. So, customers would have the choice of purchasing the handheld or going to the dealers to get flashed. I guess the most economical way would be to have the dealers flash the tune. That's how the Audi B8's did it. You'd pay roughly $2k for the tune and an hour of labor for the dealer to flash (which never takes more than 20 minutes, lol). The dealer may also get a cut of the tune pricing, but essentially with this loader the customer base increases because of the convenience factor and the option to flash back to stock.

and it would be very difficult to find a tuner who will send you open Master files.

the new Hack is great and I think we will all benefit from it over the time with existing flash solutions which does not require OBD Unlock any more or new Flashing tools.

buying this cable for private use only is just waste of Money. lean back and wait a bit, there is so much more coming in the near future.

Who cares? Eventually all the best will have it (if it works) and we'll be able to get our DME's tuned without having to remove them from the car and causing permanent damage. Seems like a pretty solid deal to me.

Then we get into how good is the tune file they provide? That is where I would be most concerned. The dealer will see this signature as well(flash counter), where with a good bench flash that is patched and then un detectible.

Oh great. Now we get to read giant essays on why VF's form of OBDII flashing is the most R&D'ed, best engineered, and most complete on the market today.

This would be great if it turns out to be a tool that could be used to bridge (upload) any files from whichever Flash Tune Vendors map list you chose to use.

Looks like we both received the same news very early this morning.

Glad to see that all of our efforts will be going to good use with this
