Keep in mind, the OP wasn't actually considering paying $5k for Carbon Black. He only brought that color up because he figured that, as a near-black color with undertones of pearlescent blue, it was similar enough to Azurite to get an idea of what the latter looks like. He was unable to find an Azurite vehicle on a lot near him, which is no surprise since it's a relatively rare Individual color offered only on M vehicles for $1950 whereas Carbon is a standard black offering on a number of current non-M BMWs.

Granted, it was a bit confusing, and you aren't the only one who thought he was contemplating Carbon Black as well. Plus, as you point out, in another thread he mentions that he is indeed considering spending $5k on a color which in that case is very similar to a standard $550 color offering.

I'm that guy.... All I can say about azurite is that it's simply amazing!!! No joke... It's awesome... You get two different colors... In the sun you get this crazy blue black and on a overcast day you get this black color.... It's certainly a looker and def a conversation piece.... I get comments almost every single day... EVERYONE is in awe of the color

not a fan especially for $2000 and harder to keep clean and swirl free than black.

I have an Azurite. They are rare, very rare. Trust me, don't get this color. It's an ugly, terribly horrible and yucky color, whether it's clean OR dirty, during the day or at night. And everyone who sees my car says the same thing. I hate it! So please please PLEASE don't get one...

I don't know where you live, but here in south Florida, you have a lot of BMW M4s, heck M-cars all over and NONE of them are AZURITE... When fellow M members see Azurite... They flip out.... They always wave me down... "Hey what the hell color is that" ....I tell them don't worry about it and tell them to enjoy their alpine white BMW...LOL

I'm of two minds. I personally waited an extra 6 months for the 2016 model year to start manufacturing so I could order the color (They stopped accepting individual colors near the end of the 2015 run to prepare for 2016) so I obviously love the color.

However, should you opt for something else I certainly wouldn't mind remaining a little more exclusive.

By far my favorite color. I own a 2008 550i in Carbon Black. Just picked up my 2016 m4 last week in Azurite Black. The M4 is a bit more blue in comparison to the carbon black 550i. A bit more "stand out" blue. I feel like it is a lot more metallic (more sparkles), when up close then the 550i carbon black. My opinion is that the best options I got on the car, are the colors.

Here are some photos.

Thanks for the pics! Great colour combo. I am surprised to hear carbon seems darker...I thought the contrary. Is your interior amaro or golden brown?

Golden Brown. I was really torn between Golden and Amaro when I was placing the order. Probably changed my order 3 times with my CA. It was a bit difficult to make a decision only based on pictures I saw online.

I am very happy with my decision. The interior color looks nothing like the pictures. Pictures make it seem Orange...which I do not see in person at all. During the day the interior is nice and bright. At night...it becomes nice and dark.

Both the exterior and interior change colors during the day and night. It is awesome.

I wouldn't say that the Carbon is Darker. It just seems that Azurite has a bit more blue to it...but that does not really add in to the Carbon Black being darker. Its really hard to explain, without seeing the car in person. Both cars are pretty dark, I just think the M4 is a bit more blue.

Ill try to take some picture with both cars side by side, during the day. That might help.

The blue is very subtle. At least on mine. I have it coated with Cquartz UK so that might be part of the reason. Most of the time it looks black. I don't regret it at all. I do wonder what Tanzanite would have looked like though.

For reference, almost all of my cars have been black and I always wanted a midnight blue My wife's cars have always been white.

Azurite Black is awesome! Especially after a little paint correction, made the blue pop a lot more. Here's mine!

I get tons of compliments on my Azurite Blue...Tanzanite Blue is another sexy color if you want a color that's a bit more blue than black.

I just received my Azurite Black M4 yesterday. It looks way better in person than pretty much any of the pictures I have seen online. Especially with the 19" Black Light Alloy Wheels.

No pictures yet as it has been overcast since I picked it up yesterday.

My two choices were Azurite Black or the Sakhir Orange. I was really torn and I think I would been happy with either. I wanted a lighter interior (last 4 interiors have been black) so I want with the Azurite Black with the Sakhir Orange interior as I didn't think I could keep the inside clean on a Sakhir Orange w/Silverstone interior. And I couldn't do matchy matchy (Sakhir exterior with Sakhir interior).

Congrats! I am surprised to hear you say that it looks way better, but I'm glad for you. I have Az Black, and it's not nearly as blue as I expected. In fact the first pics posted in this thread, which were the ones that really sold me on the color, are completely misleading. My car has never looked anywhere near that blue under any lighting conditions.

I did notice today that when looking through my polarized sunglasses the car looked bluer than without, so I think some of these online pics benefit from camera filters.

dt said his F83 pops more with paint correction so that could be a hint.

I had seen it in person before I purchased, but I had seen it on a 7 series in the show room, when it was cloudy out, so the lighting wasn't the best.

I do agree that many of the online pictures due appear to have some level of color correction. It was hard to remember what I had seen in the showroom so the pictures online had me a bit on edge. Once I received it in person, I love the levels black with just hints of blue.
