I think the Porsche Mission-E, so NO.
The contrast between the EU (or some countries at least) and the US is surreal. Due to our taxes, EV's are a lot (A LOT) cheaper, especially compared to something like the F8x (what already is perceived as something irrational to buy anyways). No doubt the next gen M3/4 will improve on emissions, but still, it will be difficult to justify ... at least if an EV with double the sticker price, still is cheaper from a total cost of ownership perspective. |

A few reasons I probably will at least skip a generation:
1) Cars keep getting bigger. The current M4 is as big as I want to go. The F80 is basically the same size as the old school E39 M5. I'm not looking to drive a Cadillac here. 2) Manual - no manual, no care. 3) I'm still having fun with the current car. 4) I don't want AWD. 5) I opted for no driver assistance package. This may not be an option in the future and may be mandatory. I hate those systems on my own, personal car. Such a waste of money, extra weight, etc. 6) As newer cars get "better" they also seem to be losing "soul." In all likelihood, I'll probably start buying older cars rather than newer ones. The new car will have better tech, more luxury, be faster, etc. - objectively it'll be a better car. But the F82 M4 is already fast enough, especially with the aftermarket support.

Too early to tell. We have no information regarding the G80 yet. Once i see some real pictures and data about it ill make a decision. If it goes auto and awd only, ill keep my F80 for the long haul.

Some may not like it, IMHO G80 will be bigger than current F80 mainly to fit right below F90 M5 in size and price. Too much of a gap between these two M cars lately.

I think you're on to something regarding #6. At the very least, on the street I agree with this statement. You can't go around flooring an M4, even stock, for much time without being at super-legal speeds in a straight line, and the car is so capable that in turns you are also going super-legal speeds very easily.

Interesting. I would have pegged you to reup for another F82. My m4 goes back in three months and I have already picked up its replacement...the F80 m3. In three years, I expect to go right into the G80 M3 or possibly the F90 M5. Another possibility is a Range Rover Supercharged or another x5M.

Hmm...maybe. I think your sentiment is more true with the run of the mill BMW's like the 330, 530, x1, x3 and x5. I think the M buyers are used to paying a premium and the question will not be "Can I afford it?" but "Is it worth that much more money?"

Placed an order for an F80 Individual this summer. If offered, I might switch to the M2 Competition instead (low chance).
Next after that, the next-gen M2, M3 or go to Porsche (depending on finances).

Plan to keep the F80 for as long as I can and add an X3M as a family car ~2020. If things go well I'd hope to be able to have a 3rd "fun" car in 2023 which could be G82/3 if it's offered with a manual and compelling enough otherwise I would look in the direction of the 992 911 or AMG GT successor if affordable. But as we know, plans can and often do change......

I have thought about an F83, as well as (in no particular order) M550i, X3 M40i, Macan GTS, Audi S6/S7 (If I can pick up cheap as they are about to switch over generations), Audi RS5, Audi S4 or S5 Sportback, Giulia QV, C63S sedan / convertible (don't like coupe), Audi SQ5 and some others. F-Type and Cayman too small. Everything from same class as F82 to larger / highway cruiser and SUVs.

On the streets commuting, it was like an F30 335 and I could see folks not liking that and calling it "soulless" if they want an "always on" car That's just the reality of a 'dual purpose car'... |

Waiting to see. If the car gets any bigger, I'm out. Maybe an M2? Maybe it's time to move to Porsche? Hopefully they get that old feeling back in the M cars that everyone complains is lost in the F80.
