I don't mind losing the function, I just don't like how it randomly opens when I pass by or when I already have the trunk open and I close it but keeps opening. So can this be coded off?

I asked my service advisor about installing a cf diffuser and exhaust. He did mention that coding is updated after the cf diffuser install due to the things mentioned here. CF interferes with the sensor hence it is disabled.

Kick-trunk-open and diffuser issue

I have OEM Carbon Fiber diffuser mounted. Just noticed that the kick trunk open function seems not to work. Tried about 20 times to get it to work. NOTHING. I'll be going back to the dealer, but wanted to see if anyone had any issues with their kick-trunk-open and diffusers. I called the CA, but he claims that it is because the diffuser is carbon and messing up the sensor not being able to pick up the foot motion. :

Thanks for the replies and info!!!

Yep. This is a known issue. I sent mine back and got the Status Gruppe diffuser. That works with kick sensor.

Diffuser cancels out the option. Your car is fine.

Most CF diffusers wont work cuz the CF weave somehow blocks the sensor signals.

Thanks. I would imagine that the OEM diffuser somehow wouldn't do that and BMW would get it to work. Not a biggie. Still open the trunk with the key anyway.

Thanks for this thread, I just cancelled my diffuser installation. Kick trunk open is very important to me and I don't want to miss that. I'll look into alternatives in the future. When design kills functionality, I'm not ok with that.

Paint the standard diffuser. Looks great and keeps full functionality! Also saves you a fair bit of cash!

It wouldn't help to paint it in my case anyway It was already black.

I have heard that Status Gruppe diffuser doesn't mess with the trunk's comfort access but I cannot personally confirm because I don't know.

But BMW has said that they know OEM interrupts the sensor. When you get it, most would warn you about it.

Known "issue" with replacement (non OEM) diffusers. I do like the idea of painting the diffuser an alternate color to retain functionality.

I just installed the Status Gruppe diffuser and can definitely confirm that it defeats the trunk comfort kick access. This diffuser blocks the signal just like all the other CF diffusers. I now use the trunk handle to open the trunk, which is no biggie for me.

Love the car and a great pic. The very first thing I noticed, though, was that the footprints went to the "wrong" side of the car. UK FTW! The painted diffuser looks great.

About to get my kick access coded off because there are times I pass by the rear of the car and trunk opens. I'm guessing the diffuser messed with it as well

Well, what I did was getting a cheap chinese knock-off of the M performance diffuser but made of reinforced plastic. Kick trunk works like a charm. You can also then wrap it in CF design, if you like that sorta stuff...

Oh... well that's good to know I was going to do it to test.

Thank you.

Yours is the first we have heard to not work. Every car we have tested on locally and others like posted above have worked with our diffusers.

Yes, the main reason I got your diffuser in the first place was because others have posted that the trunk comfort kick access still worked after installation.

I really wanted to maintain this comfort access, but after installing the Status Gruppe CF diffuser, the trunk comfort kick access stopped functioning.
I assume each one is made individually, so there must be some variations in each diffuser in terms of thickness.

In my case, the comfort kick access stopped working so I would caution others interested in this diffuser that it may or may not work after installation as in my case.
I still like the design of the diffuser and just use the trunk handle to open the trunk.

As has been stated previously, you CANNOT install a conductive shield (CF is conductive) over an RF sensor and expect good results. The reason some CF diffusers might allow the CA feature to work is that they would be of inferior construction and the CF is very thin or possibly not genuine.
