My Dad always told me the two certainty's in growing up apart of our family. Taxes and car payments. We always loved driving brand new cars. Just come from a big car family. I don't have an issue 'working' for my car. It doesn't bug me.

I went from that to a GTR (actually had both for a long time and daily drove the M4, it felt like a s600 when I was in the GTR often) which does two things exceptional, reliability and power. Now a V10 R8 a whole other level of special (as it should be for the cost)... My E60 M5 as big of a junk as the SMG transmission was, and the E92 M3 were special they are forever burned into my mind, My F10 M5 as amazing as I think the S63tu is and even the amount of abuse my M4 took alpha testing one of the first JB4s out, they are largely forgettable, when put up against generation defining cars. I'm sure not many people have that depth of driving time with each car to compare, but for me it just did everything well, and nothing I say "MAN I will miss that". Just waiting for BMW to do something AMAZING again so I can buy more than just a daily 2017 x3 |

I miss my E46 M3 all the time, and the F80 M3 will never fill that void.
I need a 4 door car to haul family and employees around, so I don't regret buying the F80, but I'm currently contemplating on obtaining a car to fill the void that the E46 has left. I'm looking at the Shelby GT350, importing an R33 GTR in a year, another E46 M3 maybe, etc. Cone to think of it.. I could've bought an E46 M3 with the amount I've spent on mods alone for the F80. Damn. Either way OP, you aren't alone in your feelings. Do what makes you happy! |

I agree there is a lot to be said for the more raw feel of older cars. |

I miss my 2005 ZHP coupe with the 6-speed. BMW bought it back as a branded vehicle due to the ignition coils failing. I believe I would still own the car today if BMW could have fixed the ignition coil problem. Not a power house but a pure pleasure to drive. OP enjoy the ZHP.

It costs the same to purchase an M2 as is does to lease a $75k~ M3 which is what I came out of. If I were keeping the car for 10 years it would be worth it because of depreciation and I am afraid of what servicing one of these cars will be like out of warranty. Techs now-a-days plug in computers that tell them to replace parts and that's the extent of the diagnosis. The days of problem shooting and understanding how/why things work are over. |

http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...5&postcount=16 I'll add that my E91 M-sport was very close to the ZHP and had similar shortcomings. |

If I had my way I would have never sold my 1971 Cuda 440, 6-pack back in 1984 and I would drive it today. Now trying to find a small black V-8 (318) with a 2 barrel carb is bringing strong money. Two years ago I came real close to buying a 70 Cuda with a 340 V-8 for 40k (numbers matching), missed this deal by 10 minutes (sold to caller who called in front of me).

I'm not sure I would own this car if I wasn't tracking it regularly. It is way too much car for just daily driving. I had a mildly modified 2008 335xi that I had the opportunity to track one day and got the bug. In fact, that one track day is the whole reason I bought the M3. If I hadn't tracked the 335 I would probably still have it. I'm a firm believer in being happy and if you aren't happy with this expensive of a car then you definitely made the right decision.

I had dinan stage 3 suspension, Cobb, a host of other parts for stage 2 aggressive on my 335i, and that was not nearly the car the M4 is. Now assuming cost of a daily driver is a factor the 335i was great, and it for me was my first step into modding and I loved the car, and actually had great reliability over 56k miles before I was hit by a chick running a red light. Breaking, driver assistance features, power in and out of traffic with the DCT/ twins it is an exceptional daily and I used it to contrast the GTR for quite awhile until I sold it. |
