Because ruining a wheel and chipping paint is a big deal?

Depends on the coating and how it's applied. May be able to strip it and reapply. I don't know.

Surely it is still functional, but the finish will never be the same again even if repaired unless perhaps it was shipped back to the factory and refinished there. Some (actually probably many) people that repair wheel finishes can actually make them worse.

Based on those pictures, I'm wondering if the damage happened at another time. It may not have been due to the car wash.

My SA always confirms with me that I don't want it washed. He says "you don't want us to wash it right?" He then says, "you want us to vacuum it out?" I think a lot of people where I live are uptight. I drive it, I put it through the car wash (that has brushes), it's just a car. There's a ding in the body just below the right back window. It sucks, but I know no matter how much care I take, it will still happen. I just stopped worrying about it. To the OP, that sucks about your wheel and the back thingy. Hopefully they will do right by you if they really did it.
I love my car and want it to be perfect. But I don't love it enough to hand wash it and scrub the rims and obsess about a ding or a scratch. I used to be that way, then I decided I couldn't keep up with it so I gave up. People don't care about other people's stuff. It's like shoveling S**T against the tide. |

I hate taking my car to dealer because of stuff like this but honestly that really looks like a stone chip. It matches the pattern exactly you see when stones hit the paint. I now you are upset, but is it possible you just didn't notice it? Not sure what a wash boy would have dropped to cause a pattern like that and also to get it inside the spoke like that would be really hard. Seems if they dropped something it would be on the surface of the wheel if anywhere. I really think that's stone damage and maybe you just didn't notice until you starting looking around after your service?
Before I take my car in I always go over the whole car (body, wheels, etc.) just to be sure I know before I give it to service. That's a tough one to prove. |

I feel your pain believe me...brought my car in Monday for a reprogramming. Get a phone call yesterday that they damaged my brand new wrap but it was actually worse and they took a chunk out of the left rear wheel well with a jack handle. Now the car needs to go to the body shop then have the entire quarter panel re-wrapped. I wont have the car for probably another few weeks and am so frustrated. All this shit is avoidable but they hire idiots that dont give a shit about anything but their paycheck.

Just one dealer visit cost them two new wheels due to employee not paying attention to a curb and scratching the two left wheels.. I mean, I understand that some people like to feel the curb while parking. I would guess that it is ok for others and their own cars. The problem is that at a dealer this is really idiotic as these are not employee cars, these are customer cars. This cost me time. I want the dealer to know and feel that this is idiotic in their place of business and just fix it. And they did. |

Just had my car detailed and the detailer mentioned it looks like touch-up paint was applied to the front bumper (.75" x .25"). Sure enough, a crappy touch up job on the front bumper between the front grills.
Now I've only ever left the car with a dealer, but since I hadn't gone to the dealer in quite some time I can't confirm which of two dealers it was or even which trip it occurred on. I of course have my suspicions as one dealer has always been great where the other has always been terrible. TL DR - inspect your car very carefully when picking up at the dealer. They may even try and pull one past you like they did me if they damage your car... |

Very curious as to what the dealer finally did to resolve. Even more interested in who the dealer was and who the SA was as I am also in the East Bay and typically go to East Bay BMW in Pleasanton with our X5 and they have been ok at best.

I’ve been to east bay bmw once and will never go back. No damage to my car but a huge bait and switch with installing my electronic steering wheel. quoted me 2 hours in writing. I get there, drop the car off, and get a call they want to charge me for 8 hours of labor. After having a long discussion with their service manager they said they would do me a favor and “only”charge me for 4 hours (at $200/hour). Just not a great experience...

This guy was banging the dirty mats into the paint to get sand out I guess. They hire dudes for like $8/hr. They don't get paid enough to care unfortunately.

Pay him $16 or even $32/hr he still wouldn’t care. It’s More about expectations of yourself than of others.

Almost looks like the rim damage was from dropping a lug bolt onto the wheel spoke. Only reason I know that is because a did it on an OEM M235i wheel, and was shocked at how soft the rim was and that it took a chunk out of the wheel similar to that in your picture.
