F80 looks like the new F90 M5 especially in profile?

Sorry if there are 5 threads about this, but I haven't been around lately. I did search, but is anyone else pretty stoked about how much their F80 looks like a new F90? Oh and why no SSII available for F90?

Every model pretty much looks like a stretched or shrunken F30. Same goes for MB and Audi and their respective sedans. I can hardly distinguish between a C and E class when it's behind me. It's the German design language.

Oh and there's no SSII for the F90 because there's no more SSII period.

Granted, but there are some really similar subtleties between these two in my opinion, not just major lines.

Good to know on SSII. I'm even less likely to sell my SSII F80 now.

I hear they will be brining it back in two years as an individual color....

I think that you mean that the new F90 looks like an F80 since F80 came first.

I might catch some flak for this...but the new M5 looks stunningly average to me. It barely looks the part of an M car. No wide fender flares, rides high, wheels are tucked in, etc. I guess you could mod one to make it look more aggressive but that could be said of any car. The interior, tech and performance are top notch, however.

I hope the next M3 doesn't go this route.

I actually thought that about Audis. I can make out just about every BMW and MN but a rebadged Audi, i would likely get it wrong all the time if it wasn’t side by side next to another audi

Agreed, except for that massive front overhang. I understand how it happened with the long hood styling and the M5's wheelbase, but imagine how the GC would have looked with 6 more inches of wheelbase added at the front.

I couldn't agree more. The styling of the whole G family of BMWs is stunningly boring imo. It's a very mild update of the F family's styling which aged very quickly. Both BMW's and Audi's styling has stood still for far too many years. And although some may not love the look, Merc has really evolved past both brands imo (styling wise at least). And to make things worse, the only significant styling update has been the addition of those massive grilles. So BMW's evolution went from "svelte" to "Hummer".

Remember when BMWs looked like this? Timeless.

Agree with this totally.

Wider rear arches would have made a big difference.

Nothing new. E60 and F10 were the same way. Wider front fenders only. E63 is the same way. These are marketed differently.

Do the E60 and F10 M5 have wider front fenders?

I'm with you on this. It just doesn't have the same presence. I'm actually disappointed in it. The engine, interior, and flexibility due to AWD/RWD keeps it desirable enough to own but I think they dropped the ball on not giving it some hips.

I would kill for an imola E38 740i sport. I recently ordered an F80 and I love it. But my favorite bmw has been and will always be the E39 M5. I regret selling mine. It’s on my to buy list after I finish paying my M off. A popular m5board goer swapped in the S62 and trans and that would be the ultimate DD in an E38.
