If you followed the instructions, the whole switch unit should have been disconnected from the dash by the time you reached this step. If it is still attached through the connector, it may be challenging to release all the taps. Hope that is not the case.

I released 1st tap, and let it sit on the top since it can't fully disconnect at that point. Then rotated the unit a bit, released the 2nd tap. Then rotate again, until all the taps were released. You don't need to release all the taps at the same time. It doesn't really require any special tool. Something with a small flat head would do.

Nice, I would have never thought about doing that until seeing this. This is now a must do for me.

Oh, that part is even less tricky, or not tricky at all. Just press the tabs on both sides down, then pull. It is a standard plug connector, so I don't even remember anything special about disconnecting it, but definitely not 3 tabs.

Good luck.

Use a pry tool to lift one corner as much as you can then just grab the whole unit with your fingers and wiggle it out. It should come out easily.

That's what I thought. I didn't want to pull too hard because I didn't want the tabs to bend upwards and make it worse. I pushed it back in for now. I'll give it another shot in a couple days.

Attempt number 2. I cannot get this damn thing out of the dash. Those three little metal prongs are pressing against the dash and I can't get anything in there to press them down.

Update. Brute force worked. I'll bend the tabs back into shape on reinstall.

Incorrect.

IND use the same part, but they lightly sand and clear coat it for a much more premium look. Not the same thing.

Maybe I'm just being super picky, but there's no chance you guys will ever make a Matte Red button vs glossy is there? Love it! I just wish it wasn't shiny.

I just installed this on my F80 with a black chrome bezel, and I like the new look. Two minor notes:
  1. My red start button came with the cloth tape ends doubled over each other, and this extra thickness was enough to make the button stick down when pressed. I had to uninstall the red button to remove the tape and trim it so that the ends did not overlap.
  2. If you opt for a bezel as well as the button, do the button install first, and then attach the bezel. I tried to install the bezel while the OE button was removed, and this made installing the red button more difficult. To be fair, the extra tape thickness mentioned in item 1 probably was the main cause of this, however the video showing the bezel installation does also show the new button already installed.
