hummm Id give you this short answer and will leave the interiors out of it:
Stock vs Stock 1. acceleration- its not even close as the E63S has AWD and so much grip. The launch is just violent with no wheel spin it just goes. The C63S requires a more calculated throttle press but will still get up and go once the rear wheels engage. 2. speed from a roll- again the E63S is the more powerful car and will just keep pulling with the 9 speed MCT. The C63S has the 7 speed and its more fun to paddle shift because you dont caught up in all the gear options. But the E63S will pull away rather easily from a 30 to 160 mph run. 3. Chassis feel- The E63S weighs almost 4600 lbs but feels closer to the C63S in weight when pushing the car in high speed bends and sharper turns. The suspension is very taut and almost too stiff at times unless you have great roads. The C63S does not feel as planted at speed and bit more bouncy. The E63S pushes the grip to the extreme and really empowers the driver more. The C63S though, is the more tossable fun car and these two compare like my old F82 M4 vs my old F10 M5. The C63S just is a bit more sporty even though it lacks the E's grip. 4. Steering- they both have some artificial feel where it is almost like the car is over correcting at times. I wish the the steering was pin point and worked closer with the chassis response but, dont get me wrong, its still a good rack but not as good as my AMG GTS or 991.2 GTS. 5. Exhaust- they both have the OEM Performance Exhaust and are quite loud and aggressive. The C63S might just appear to be a little louder because my E63S has the acoustic sound package which insulates the glass better. But these two sounds are incredibly rewarding when you push the rpms up over 4k. 6. Exterior looks- the C63S is better looking IMHO as the E can lose its identity with the dilution of the Benz sedan world. This is why I have the Edition 1 E63S with the nasty looking matte black paint which differentiates it from the more docile whites and silvers. Now the C63S tune will run closer to the stock E63S but still is just not as fast definitely from a dig but the roll would be closer. The difference in the OEM setups (have the same M177 engine) is the twin scroll turbos and gearing vs the C63S single scrolls. Both are great cars for the purposes they serve and price points.

Traded in my 2015 M3 for a 718 Cayman S. Loving it so far, have a few track days booked this month so will really get to see how it handles.
Just in terms of size and handling the Cayman is amazing, the way it feels mid corner and how you can adjust it with throttle or brake .I definitely miss the insane torque and sound (with MPE) of the M3. The Cayman is just as fast but the power delivery is definitely not as 'eventful' as the M3 could be. Excuse the rainy day picture, haven't had a chance to get some good ones yet.

I've just flicked through this thread again, it seems to me a lot of guys here have gone from M3/4 to Porsches. Any regrets or comments on how Porsche differs to BMW?

New (purchased late March) fun/weekend car is a GT350. I had wanted an R version but I couldn't find one the didn't have a significant ADM. It's has what I missed in my former E92 M3. Meaning great exhaust sound (I had the MPE), NA V8 and soul. I did enjoy my former M4 ZCP MT but I'm enjoying the GT350 more.
Though I still hang with the F8x group (plus other makes). |
