12k mile oil service?

I just had my oil changed by the dealer and the service interval was reset for the first time since I have owned the car. The car now says next oil service is due in 12k miles. I thought 10k miles was the standard for oil service? Anyone else experienced this?

Yes, when mine was reset it indicated 10K miles (or of course 1 year, which ever comes first). IMO 10K is pushing it even for synthetic oil. The max I'd wait is 7500 but since I only put on approx 6K/year, I'm just planning on using the "free" yearly changes.

Thats what I would think, but for some reason my car now says 12k miles until the next oil service. No idea why yours would default to 10k miles but mine would be 12k miles.

What do you mean by your dealership? Your car's CBS system will tell you when service is due

I guess it is because the break-in service is at 1200 miles, and the next service is at 10k. So the interval between these two is 9k, then should be 10k afterwards.

Not sure unless the interval can be configured by the dealer (which seems to be the case given the post above). If you are driving < 10K miles per year it is a non-issue, as you can have the oil changed yearly. If you are driving > 10K miles per year I'd definitely have the dealer reset it for the correct interval.

Interesting. After my break-in service, my service light was set for 10K (pretty sure anyway), but the computer ultimately called for an oil change at 7500 miles. It was just about at the one year mark, so the oil would have been changed anyway.
