I'd say the F87 suspension is about the same as the F80 in sport. Comfort in the M3 is slightly (barely) softer than the M2 and sport + is way stiffer in the M3.

I was really considering the M2 but moved forward with the M4 instead and haven't looked back since.
IMO the M3/M4 looks slightly better, but in a more mature, sophisticated way. The interior, especially with the full leather, is easily 10x better than the M2's. The M3/M4 is faster, but not as nimble as the M2. For me, it really came down to a few things... The M2 is missing some small but important (to me) M features, like the hood power budge, sport mirrors, carbon fiber roof, etc. Probably insignificant for most and I understand the cost saving reasons behind it, but nevertheless the small details matter. Finally since I'm leasing, leasing an M2 actually came out to be slightly more per month, than leasing the M4 with same down payment but more favorable residuals and money factor on the M4. So got a better car, for less. A win-win in my book.

The M2s interior feels/is cheap. The materials are lower grade all around compared to the M3/4. It was a great car for around a short auto cross track and that's about it. Big boy tracks (Thermal) the M3/4 kills it. I even hated the chessball "M2" stitching in the seats. They lease like shit on top of all the short comings. Not worth it in my IMO.

The only way to fix that for me was to move to coilovers.

Yes it does, but so does the M3 with 58.3 or higher with adaptive, or any ZCP.

Yes the "burnt wicker" interior is very bad. Also, you can't see the M2 gauges in the daytime.

It's the shock damping curve tuning that's poor, that is an internal shock thing, not a software thing.

The matte carbon fiber look (while it may be real) looks cheap and like a "fake" carbon fiber. Reminds me of the look in the Corvette, not a good thing IMO.

Base F80, 58.3 F80, M2, ZCP F80. I have a minimum of 1000 miles in each of these, I have tracked all but the ZCP.

According to this previous thread, for lci cars rear dampers are same part number and front dampers are different. Curious how much different an LCI car with 58.3 would be to a zcp car |

I currently have a M3, and I'm thinking of switching to a M4. I've always preferred the M4 design, but got the M3 because of my little minions. I got the DCT, and to me, a manual gearbox is what this car needs to fully enjoy it.
I don't daily drive it now, so I'd rather have something I really want. My son fits fine in the back with a car seat (checked out M4 yesterday), so not too concerned with the 'inconvenience,' as we have a large SUV when we are out doing family stuff and require more space. He usually rolls out with me when we do dad and son stuff every weekend, which is when I take out the M3 nowadays. Best of luck! |

M2 to m3
The choice of color is already made, it's going to be Ferrari Red: http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...1457521&page=2
One last thing I'm a bit worried about the differences in the car between a M2 and M3. Is the M2 a more fun car than the M3 and the M3 more a daily? The M3 has a competition package and the interior feels a lot more than a M I guess but what about driving? What do you guys think? Are there any that made the same move? |
