I wouldn't say people are "stupid", but I feel like a lot of people commenting may have become M3 fans during the E9X era, and that's COMPLETELY fine because that's one of my all-time favourite motors. That car was such a fantastic addition to the M3 legacy. A lot of us have become spoiled with the amazing note of the S65, myself included. Do I think the F82 sounds great right? No, I think it sounds poor actually. However, is that what I expected from a BMW M3 (4) with an inline 6 (regardless of boost)? Yes. IMO, the E30, E36, and E46 all sounded terrible, however I wouldn't have blinked at the opportunity to own any of them. This F82 is sounding just as poor as those, and I crave it just as much |

Really, everyone complains about the sound but no one is bitching about the fact that there are no more shots of it in Mineral Grey.....!
Like it would have been that hard to walk around with the camera and get the rest of the car....... Seriously, anyone have more MG pics- and please NOT the F83 M4 Convertible. |

Are mods deleting posts on this thread? It seems there were posts made that were deleted...
And why everyone gets so worked up about this is beyond my understanding...some people love the exhaust sound and some don't. There is no reason to call people stupid just because they have a different opinion from you. |

I can still hear the difference between the e46 M3 and this one. Heck I can even hear the difference between this and the 335i. There is some sort of monotonous buzz sound coming from the f8x m3 exhaust.

I am going to miss the sound of my E93 V8.
Wait, I am not going to miss it at all: I am not going to sell it! It is a keeper! .

I wants to add that if the sound were deeper even with the buzz coming out of it, should sound better. So an after market exhaust should be able to fix it.

The recording device had to be making that squeaking sound, when it was revved up a bit higher it sounded like rasp from a s54 mixed with a n54/55. A decent exhaust should make it should pretty good IMO but then again I love rasp!!!!! still no s65

, is simple they just want you to pay extra for that M performance exhaust.
Same as those driving options on all Cars where you pay extra to enjoy the car just that little bit better! Last edited by Celesabc; 04-15-2014 at 11:29 AM.. |

There's definitely some audio distortion going on here because of the camera position. Hear that high-pitched squeaking noise? There's no way that's in proper proportion to the actual exhaust note. I mean, drive down to your local BMW dealer and have a listen to the M235i. Go drive one and listen to it under full throttle. It sounds 100x better than this. There's no way BMW boned up the exhaust that bad.

The stock 335i/435i sound better. The M235i sounds better. Hoping the M2 doesn't sound like that. TFLCars reviews aren't that great though.
For compairson sake the MotoGP safety car while still sounding like a broken tractor, is a bit better. It has a deeper tone.

the majority of people who don't like the exhaust tone are E9X M3 owners. Kind of expected. It's not a V8......which is why i'm interested in this and had NO interest in the E9X M3.....that's kind of the point!

sounds very different from what we have heard before. wonder which is real. I find it very surprising since all the n55 / 54 cars have sounded pretty good, especially the 335is. Interesting to see what it sounds like in person.

Ok, I'm an e39 m5 owner. I've never owned an e9x m3.
Sound to me is incredibly important. I don't need it to be loud, or exotic, I just need to enjoy hearing it rev out. I always felt the e46 sounded terrible from the outside, for example, but at least driving it was enjoyable as you heard alot of engine sound too. And I'm not picky: I enjoy well tuned 4-cylinders (honda's k20 series for example), inline sixes, flat sixes, v8s.... As much as it pains me, I'm comfortable assuming that the f8x m3/m4 sounds like crap from the outside at this point. I mean: I've heard plenty of f30 n55's, M235's, and many other stock exhaust systems recorded over iPhones and they sound fine. Maybe not great, but completely enjoyable. This sounds bad. Unpleasant. Like I'll cringe each time I start the car in the garage. I know BMW is pushing M-performance parts, but it's pretty ridiculous if I need to equip my ~$65k M3 with an M-performance exhaust to get it to sound as good as, or close to, an N55 equipped with an M PPK. (this is just a example of ridiculousness, I have no information on any alternative exhausts for the M3) I'll wait to hear it in person and drive it. I didn't need a great or legendary exhaust, but I need to be able to enjoy starting the car, idling it, and puttering around as that's where it'll spend alot of it's time. And right now, I'm truly concerned it'll sound bad. |
