I have mine set to M Drive settings, Audio settings, forgot the rest

New owner for all of 12 hours. I learned how to shift into reverse today. It was pretty embarrassing trying to leave the dealer and not being able to find the reverse gate on the 6 speed manual!! First BMW. First M Car.

Happened to me too except I was in the parking lot of a busy shopping plaza and I was trying to reposition into a spot. Blocked the lane and had to turn on the hazards lol. The lock out is pretty tight when new.

Don't feel bad, I'm still trying to get used to how long you have to stay on the brake to get DCT to shift from R to 1.

Today I learned that there is an LED light for the armrest compartment. Sweet!

Also, Austin Yellow is named for the color of cedar pollen, which is slowly changing the color of my car and trying to kill me by clogging my lungs.

I don't blame you, I was standing at the pump at a Costco gas station with a line behind me watching me trying to figure out how to open the gas door on my first fill-up.

That's me every time I get a rental car. The worst I had was an Altima which doesn't have the little arrow in the gas gauge to tell you which side the door it on. Oh wait, no... the worst was a Miata where the fuel door release was a black fabric loop in the black, unlit cargo compartment between the seats with a black door covering it. I gave up and took it back half empty.

I totally forgot about the arrow thing. Mainly cause I haven't driven multiple vehicles in a while now.

I've found the arrow thing to be unreliable. I have seen cars where the arrow was wrong. Generally, think where the car was designed, and it's on the passenger side for that country - for safety, so that if you're pouring gas in from a can on the side of the road, you're as far away from the road as possible. But that's a general rule, and not always true either - I think some American designed cars have the gas cap on the drivers side.

I was that guy too, except I accidently found it before leaving the dealership. With the Genius sitting in the passenger seat showing me the gadgets, I commented on how I had never seen the digital gear display in the dash of an MT before. Started running through gears, but couldn't shift into reverse. She politely pointed out how it's done. It was then that I remembered I had that exact "confusion" with a rental MT Mazda CX5 during our European vacation just a couple of months prior.

What is it they say about someone who repeats his mistakes? Oh well.

Most american cars put it on the driver's side for laziness.

But there are two sides to a road and depending if you pull off to the left or right shoulder the gas fill will be on either side

What makes you think it's laziness? Seems silly to engineer a car over a stereotype. I believe it's because, unlike most European cars, U.S. cars are left hand drive and it's it's easier to line up to the pump.

I found a lock feature to the trunk in the glove box which I thought was pretty cool! I also found out my car has a hard drive for music

That actually kept thieves out of my trunk a few months ago. I got back from a long road trip and forgot to lock my car for a full weekend in my building's garage. Even left my wallet in the car, Murphy's Law.

Came back to find someone had gone through it and removed everything from the interior, and had taken off the LATCH covers trying to get into the trunk from the interior. I couldn't open the trunk either, thought they may have broken it. Turns out I (maybe even they when they were rummaging) engaged the trunk lock by accident.

Kept them from also stealing my jump starter battery kit and some tools at least.

Stock. You just plug-in your USB with music on it

99% of people pull off to the side of the road, not to the center.

But did you notice that MOST of Europe (ALL of it excluding the UK) is the same as the US? He was pointing out that your comment before was completely wrong...
