23,000 mile “vehicle check” for $239?

I scheduled my first paid service appointment at the dealer tomorrow for an oil change. Up until this service I got the included complimentary services. Dealer says I also need a vehicle check for $239. The idrive does call for an oil change and “vehicle check” but I can find any info on what would be worth $239. The car is a 2018 (bought new in Jan 2019) and has 23,000 miles. Last October at 17,000 miles the dealer replaced (for free) spark plugs, brake fluid, engine air filters. That was just 12 months and only 6,000 miles ago. So, two questions:

1. What is a vehicle check and why $239?

And

2. If I forgo the vehicle check will it have any impact on my warranty which is good for another 2.5 months.

I can afford it but who likes to flush $239 down the toilet? Any advice would be appreciated.

The vehicle check is an overall inspection service of the vehicle which tells you the status of everything. By warranty are you referring to the maintenance plan that comes with your vehicle? It shouldn't void your maintenance plan or any warranties.

I had my light come on in September, my dealership told me it be $180. I skipped it and reset the light.

Thank for your response. The warranty I’m referring to is the new vehicle warranty that all new BMWs come with (4yr/50,000 mile bumper to bumper). I slept on it and am now thinking: since my warranty is up in January, maybe the vehicle check would reveal issues my car had that I was unaware of and the dealer would have to fix them under warranty. What if, let’s say, part of the vehicle check is to test the battery which is supposed to last 10 years. The battery is on its last leg and they replace it under warranty. Ok, battery may be a bad example as that’s probably considered a wear item. But I think you get the point. If they go looking for things to fix, they’d have to fix them under warranty.

Just to follow up, I went in today and the SA actually advised me NOT to get the vehicle check done. He said at 23,000 miles doing a deep dive into the computer wouldn’t yield any useful information. I made nice with him and so he also dropped the price of the oil change from $259 to $179. Nice dude.

Just wanted to add some dealer insight here. Most of the shit-head techs that I work with don't even do the service - they just reset the CBS counter, sign off on the worksheet and call it a day - this goes for both warranty and customer-pay tickets I'm afraid.

$260 for an oil change on an f82? Lmao wtf. I used to pay about $175 out of pocket and $115 for the diff service after my maintenance plan ran out. On my current f87cs I paid out of pocket for an oil change when I first bought it and I paid an indy shop about 160 as my newer local dealer here wanted 190 for it

I swear I read once that you should always turn it down because they do it anyway... maybe I'm misremembering though.

Anecdotally I brought my x3 in for an oil change (I have the $199 unlimited oil changes) and they told me to do it and I said nah and they still sent me a video after going over the whole car etc.
