23,000 mile “vehicle check” for $239?
I scheduled my first paid service appointment at the dealer tomorrow for an oil change. Up until this service I got the included complimentary services. Dealer says I also need a vehicle check for $239. The idrive does call for an oil change and “vehicle check” but I can find any info on what would be worth $239. The car is a 2018 (bought new in Jan 2019) and has 23,000 miles. Last October at 17,000 miles the dealer replaced (for free) spark plugs, brake fluid, engine air filters. That was just 12 months and only 6,000 miles ago. So, two questions:
1. What is a vehicle check and why $239? And 2. If I forgo the vehicle check will it have any impact on my warranty which is good for another 2.5 months. I can afford it but who likes to flush $239 down the toilet? Any advice would be appreciated. |

I had my light come on in September, my dealership told me it be $180. I skipped it and reset the light. |

Just to follow up, I went in today and the SA actually advised me NOT to get the vehicle check done. He said at 23,000 miles doing a deep dive into the computer wouldn’t yield any useful information. I made nice with him and so he also dropped the price of the oil change from $259 to $179. Nice dude.

Just wanted to add some dealer insight here. Most of the shit-head techs that I work with don't even do the service - they just reset the CBS counter, sign off on the worksheet and call it a day - this goes for both warranty and customer-pay tickets I'm afraid.

I swear I read once that you should always turn it down because they do it anyway... maybe I'm misremembering though.
Anecdotally I brought my x3 in for an oil change (I have the $199 unlimited oil changes) and they told me to do it and I said nah and they still sent me a video after going over the whole car etc. |
