My girlfriend can't drive stick, and that's the reason I chose 6MT for my E9X purchase a few years ago! |

Damn you guys get of easy! Mu husband can drive a stick, and that is the reason I have to look for a place to hide the keys. And no, no way in hell is anything else than a manual be in my car. I'm a control freak.

Haha...yes, there may be a rare situation when the wife will need to drive the M4 (hopefully very very rare). I hope I don't regret this. I'm literally 50.5% DCT and 49.5% 6MT. Time's running out to change my mind... |

It was a hard decision. I am getting a DCT after selling my 997 GTS with 6MT. Manual is involving, but a good dual-clutch is involving as well in addition to being faster. It also makes you feel you are in the new world of high tech cars rather than still living in the past.

Think I would be in Jail if I owned a Manual. I don't drive with traction control on ever. I have a daily urge to break traction on the car and I usually do. The idea of being able to drop the clutch at high rpm might be trouble for me. I would be way too tempted daily. It might be good idea with my sick mind to have to go thru the trouble of pushing 5 buttons to launch the car.

I decided for a DCT because the new M Turbo engines loves the DCT. The DCT in the M6 is just THAT GOOD!!!! it's fun, it's engaging in a different way compared to a MT, Downshifts are awesome, Upshifts are instantaneous and in heavy traffic you have the smooth AT like function. If the DCT in the M4 is the same as in the M6 well I recommend the DCT. Don't get me wrong I love a good manual....1m, c5z06, c6z06.... but the character of the car for me at least doesn't go with a manual. And if your not having fun with the DCT then just TURN OFF everything and USE the extra torque

A few of us are hoping there will be a stand-alone option somewhere in the settings allowing for a complete disabling of the feature. |

When available I've always had manuals but this is the first time that I'll be making the choice for DCT. Seems to me that everyday function will be more practical and on the backroads I'll have a very quick precise shifting car with the paddles.

Had a 6MT and a DCT 335i. I think I will stick with DCT for now, its less engaging but so precise.

6MT.
Never owned a car with an a/t... never will. "You lose that vital form of self expression..." Richard Hammond of TG. Plus, i would be bored in traffic... and everywhere else. I'm told I should at least try DCT, and I will give it a fair crack, but I love being able to feel the car "engage" as I let the clutch out, either slowly or quickly, depending on the gear and situation. With DCT it's either in or out, no other options (from what I understand, correct me if I'm wrong). I know I will be slower with the MT when I take it to the track, and initial acceleration without LC, but worth the trade-off. |

I have to buy the manual for few reasons.
1. I like my kids. While driving an automatic car, they end up picking a new word every day. Since I'm hoping seeing them after they move away from home, they should have other words than the list that a highly seasoned sailor would use. At this rate they can be employed only as lab rats or arctic explorers, and my driving will be to blame. I'm sure vacation time is limited in both positions. 2. I'm a control freak. The idea of giving someone else, computer even the chance to choose for me, is too much. Do not end up like me, I can't even use a satnav cause I never do as I'm told by anything. 3. The husband wants the DCT. 4. I hate braking all the time, and this area full of Priuses and cops, and nothing pisses me off more than having to brake because a Prius driver can't understand that seeing a police car is not a reason to stop moving. 5. I have no idea what to do with the other hand, I can't put it on the wheel, it'll get in the way! |

Yes, getting that box would mean that I would have to let him at least take it for a spin, and if he would like my car, he would end up trying to borrow more often. I do love him, but not enough.
