Never said that it wouldn't be a nice highway cruiser. It's boring as hell to look at ------ that was my comment.

Furthermore, if you are comparing a 5 series to an M3/M4 then you have no idea what you really want. You are comparing apples to air conditioners.

The 2015 M3/M4 could not be more different than the 2018 M3/M4 CP. And these are comments from people who have owned both and/or own both.

So I don't think the 18 and 15 are the same car.
I had a regular 15 M3 and now a 18 CP and they are completely different. Its like a new better M3.

Well, I'm sure some see the design of the M3/4 to be boring as well. Just individual taste and personally I think the design of the 550 fits its purpose as a highway cruiser / daily driver.

Agree OP needs to decide what he wants to get out of the new car before comparing alternatives. Function is a more important criteria than price range when identifying alternative vehicles. Both the M and 550 have different comparisons that would be more meaningful once a direction is decided upon.

Haha. Used and modded vs New with warranty is always a question.

I'm also so biased because I hated the PSS tires and wished for more front camber in my '15, and the '18 doesn't address those. I'd have to mod them anyway

I personally considered both cars. I do (also personally) find the 550 a bit boring (as is the new M5 - how about some fender flares BMW? And seriously, could you put more chrome on the front? Or was that not possible?

However, the 550 drives amazing and is fast as .... It is not as raw as the M3, but it is one seriously competent machine.

Possibly, but I just built a 550 my way for 86k. Building the M5 as close as I could got me at 115k. I was responding to you saying the M5. Though maybe in this guys position I would do the last generation M5 and get one for the same price or less than a new F8x. But it would depend on my driving habits for me to pick between the three.

I agree. I have a 15 m4 and a 18 m3 comp pack. They are very similar. The comp pack has some improvements, but they are minor. The biggest difference is the comp pack exhaust.

Very true. There is a market for the M550 and it is a very different market than the M3/M4 market despite similar price points.

Right. $86k for a 550 doesn't seem like a good way to go for me.

Better to get a m5 of whatever generation and get the full experience if you want a fast big sedan

Time Lord appears to disagree

However, quick Q - do you have the adjustable suspension on your 15?

No. My 15 has the static suspension. The 18 obviously has the adaptive m suspension. FWIW, the 15 rides significantly harder than the 18.....

Hmmm
I thought you said both cars were very similar and that while the comp pack has some improvements, they are minor. And that the biggest dif was the exhaust?

Hmmmm

(just pressin your buttons...)

Better to get a m5 of whatever generation and get the full experience if you want a fast big sedan
Yeah I'd go find a 60k or so mile last generation M5. Though I'm ignorant on their pricing at the moment.

Hmmmm

(just pressin your buttons...)

Passive suspension is supposedly setup somewhere between sport and sport+ of the adaptive suspension.

So it makes sense the '15 was firmer.

I hear you. Even with the adaptive suspension, I feel that the differences are minor. My static handles surprisingly close to the adaptive. The adaptive corners a little flatter, but it's not like the difference is huge like some guys on here make it out to be. This is from a guy who drives both cars back to back sometimes.

Exactly. I actually like the firmer ride of the static more. The adaptive is too rough in sport plus and a little too soft in sport. Of course, I am riding on perfectly smooth Florida roads....
