Take a look. From the BMW tech that did the initial diagnosis on my car.

Elaborate on your GTFO. I need to know I’m not crazy for thinking he’s higher than giraffes ass.

Exactly! And the metal part. Like what metal (granted it’s a blah vid)? I see shimmer, but oil shimmers in the right light. It ticks and as you move to the drivers side or sit in it it’s super faint. Walk around to the passenger side and it’s more audible and the closer you get to the short intake side the more noticeable it is. I firmly believe it’s the exhaust camshaft/lifter.

^ Interested as well on an update. My 2015 has the same tick but at this point I don’t think it’s worth caring about too much. Just interested in what the stealership had to say

I may have it worse, my ticking started about 30k miles. Progressively got worse, now I’m just under 36k and have a leaking header on the passenger side. Car sounds like a tractor. Not sure if the leaking header (I’m assuming it’s a gasket) is related to this but it just sounds like that infamous tick but 100x louder.

E92Roni BzsBimmer Y’all get any updates ? Got a 2018 f80 m3 comp two weeks ago. No ticking noise when we got it but we changed the oil for peace of mind and the infamous ticking noise started. Only on cold starts in the morning and leaves within a few minutes. Car hardly ever makes the ticking noise throughout the day, majority of the time only in the morning cold start. Used 5w40 oil. What should I do? Any updates? |

Mine was getting pretty bad. I retorqured the exhaust cam when I did my valve cover, pretty simple job just have to remove injectors and buckets but no need to set timing, simple break bolts loose in sequence and retorqe and sound is completely gone.

iDriftYou how much did the job cost? I’m not under warranty and no one has yet to say how much it costs to fix it? Also you have any videos of the sound?

I did the job myself so labor cost I would say similar to a valve cover job plus an fee hours to remove injectors and buckets, other than that nothing else parts wise is needed besides injector Teflon seals.

iDriftYou I used 5w-30 before and ticking/rattling noise was every cold start or if I left it all day at work, would leave after a few minutes. Just changed oil today again to BMW 0w-30 and I’ve started the car around 4 times since and ticking/rattling noise was there all 4 times. Don’t know what to else to do

Same sound here, only cold starts, 28k miles. Makes me really nervous every morning when I hear it, especially when driving from a garage with walls on each side, so noticeable.
Going to visit local BMW shop to re-torque exhaust camshaft. |

typical dealer bullshit. replace whole top end of engine. why the fuck not? why not chop off your ears while your at it. Dealerships and most mechanics nowadays are part replacers, they don't know how to fix jack shit, and 80% of the clutching the pearls population will spend such money to keep their "massively complicated" engines on the road LMFAO. this dude said rod bearings on a s55. why is he talking hypothericals instead of taking off the fucking head. lmfaoo this is funniest videos I have ever seen. yall srsly need to reevalute ya'll lives. my car makes this noise from day 1. most bmw engines due to HPFP and lifter noise. yall willing to pay the same price to fix the noise to a slightly higher price if the part actually fails |
