Not cost effective and would be terrible for sound deadening

Bad idea
The coupe's roof is CF, and there doesn't seem to be much chatter about sound transmission to the interior. You really think it would be a disaster if they went with CF?

I was shocked by how much room the roof takes up when the top is down in the trunk. They need a cloth roof option on this car.

...and I also noticed that there is a button to raise and lower the folded roof when the trunk is open so you can reach things further back, but yeah, cloth roof definitely needed before I would even consider (will never happen I'm sure although I've seen old 3's with this).

We're the opposite. Only reason we considered this car was for the retractable hard top. Wife ruled out all soft top cars. Our local dealer had an M6 vert that she like, until she found out it was soft top. Could have gotten a great deal on it as it's a MY14 that has been at the dealer for over 6 months.

Yup - I'm hoping they can make the hardtop out of CF at some point but I"m sure there's reasons not too.

Honestly cargo space has never even been close to a problem given the back seats fold down and there's a pass-through ... if you routinely need more space than that you're getting the wrong car.

We usually just rent a van from uhaul for anything big anyway - super easy and $20 plus gas.

Best Review!

http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/Drives/...e-2014-review/

There's no reason to cut-n-paste the good parts since it's all good.

They actually compare it to the e93! wow, that's genius apparently. Also they compare it to the e92 .... it's slightly better, and that's progress.

I've owned both soft top and hard top. I miss the 7 second up and down in my s2000 and also the trunk size remaining the same. However, I always worried about someone slashing the top or the top wearing out from prolonged usage. It was also pretty loud in the cabin with the top up.

I do like the e93 HT but dislike that it takes 3x longer to go up and down. Trunk space is good enough for a single brief case with the top down and the cabin noise is better but top squeaks going over bumps.

I think for the f83 and e93 (and any modern convertible), the HT is a better match. It's nice to have a dual purpose car, a convertible and a coupe. It does add some weight but anyone whose driven a vert m3 knows it's just a small price to pay for admission to a blissful open top motoring experience.

Exactly, that CF compound is cheaper. This solution would increase the cost of the actual convertible but it could sell more, making it more factible. But then, BMW right know is focused in more important things...
