Wife has a Macan S. I prefer my F80 ZCP over it and the F80 may even have more leg room for the back seats. Wife loves her Macan S though.

Hiya,
I actually have both Macan S and a F80. They are super diff cars. The Macan is slow as hell compared to the F80. If you need a car to drive long distances / or for trips then the Macan > F80. I cant imagine taking my wife w/ me in my F80 on a trip longer than 2-3 hours. I really like the macan though, I feel its a great car, handles well, power is pretty good. Interior in Macan >> M3 |

Macan is much smaller inside than most people realize. Not really any bigger than a F80 for people room - slightly more practicality I guess with the hatch - but it's marginal.
You get AWD if that's your thing. You "get" a higher center of gravity. I looked at the Macan as a second family car. Too small for that and we went with a Cayenne instead. FWIW I also have a Panamera Turbo. With the four door Porsche models - if you want Performance you're going to want Turbo. Very pricy but that's how it is.

We almost have the same car, and I have a similar "problem" with mine. As a family we never take the F80, only always the X5. Defeats the purpose of having a four door. I still love the way my M3 looks, but sometimes I wish I had a bigger car.
BTW the Macan looks really small, I wouldn't buy it if size is an issue with your F80. |

My dad has a Macan, my wife has a Q5 (same platform as Macan), and I have a F80. Believe it or not, the F80 is way more practical kid hauler (especially with a rear facing convertable seat - the AAP recommends kids remain rear facing until 4 years of age). The F80 allows normal front seating positions (the others compromise leg room), rear seat passengers have more hip and elbow space in the F80, and the F80 trunk can swallow 3 suitcases, diaper bag, a set of golf clings and a stroller whereas the wheel wells in the Macan/Q5 ensure you will either compromise visabilty or luggage will go in the rear seat (or front seat lol).

just a few numbers (from Car & Driver)...
Macan S: passenger volume 96 cu.ft., cargo 18 cu. ft. = 114 cu.ft.
BMW M3: 96 + 17 = 113 cu.ft. Audi S5 Sportback: 93 + 22 = 115 cu.ft. |

The switches inside the Macan S felt cheap. I was suprised when I set inside the Macan and started playing with the switches. The console buttons felt like a kids toy.

I felt the complete opposite. The interior of my coworkers Macan Turbo felt much more upscale than my M3 does including the controls which felt more solid and not chintzy like the M cars do. The leather and seats in general were more comfortable, more supportive and the motors to the seats are much quieter as smoother in their operation. Honestly, for a car which has a base price in the 40s, specified with full leather, it’s a nicer place to be than anything BMW if you ask me.

I sold my F80 for a Macan GTS, the GTS is a fun little SUV and it drives very well for an SUV.
Interior if you go full leather is very good and in my eyes better than the F80. However it's not anything more practical than the F80, less rear legroom and the trunk has less space than the F80. I sold the GTS 6 months into it and got a Boxter GTS and a used X5. Best of both worlds |
