Never thought I'd ask ///M to put a V8 back in the M3... until I heard about the S58

8 more years of the lackluster sound produced by the S55 (S58 in the g80), seems a bit too much.

Here's fellow bimmerpost member TheLastDetailNV, n63 V8 in an f15 X5 xDrive50i with a muffler delete.

If I recall correctly, the idle sounds pretty much like my e92 M3 ZCP.

Now ... how would you like it if your f80 or g80 were to sound like this mean animal???

That sounds awesome!

The S55 does take work and money to get it to sound right, I like how these v8's don't need all that work

Ben, you are exactly correct! It does take A LOT of tweaking to get the S55 to sound right. But I really wish BMW ///M would just make it a part of the cars character. Not something you have to pay another $6k to achieve with an akrapovic or otherwise.

Pretty much living in a dream.

There is no way BMW will put a V8 in any capacity back in a M3/M4. With the world working against cars and emissions, the only thing you can do is dream because it won't happen again.

It does sound good, however nothing like my old E60 with the S85 and E92 with the S65, they were just on other levels.... reliability was another story (mostly due to the SMG in the E60 though)

yeah not saying it will ever sound like a V8, but for an inline 6 this is good (only with the MPE or any good aftermarket exhaust, stock exhaust is a joke).

PS: Don't forget the rod bearing issues with the E92 also

The E9X gang must hate the way the E46 sounds.

Well, I'm a V8 guy ... I love the gt350 omgsound, AMGs lesser but still awesome, and I had the E9x and thought it was just this side of a ferrari.

The MPE - for me - makes a bad situation worse, but it's all subjective.
For me, nothing can truly fix the F8x sound, but if I were going to try (and I'm not) it would be:

(1.) Remus
(2.) AWE

And there's really no debate on whether this car sounds like shit - it does. We know because nobody says a ferrari sounds like shit, or a GT350, or a Porsche NA 6. There is universal agreement they all sound great. The F8x ... nope, still sounds like a diesel shrimp boat that went too heavy on the garlic.

Here's proof. Listen to this car @ 3:00, just listen to that dreamy fucking symphony of badass. Then put on your bassiest headphones and listen again.

Then change your underwear.

then when you put the top down (mine's a vert), you will be blown away, everything is like 5x better with the top down as you hear the exhaust it sounds way louder

Oh good another exhaust sound thread

A turbo i6 isn't going to sound like the monster v8 in that mustang (total side note there is an '17 R for sale near me slightly used with 4K miles I am seriously considering selling a limb for). FWIW the f8x sound isn't one to love but after that racket on cold start when everything is warm it doesn't sound as bad as the Internet makes it out to be. It's a sound only a parent can love for sure but not totally devoid of merit. I also haven't found any aftermarket solution (or the MPE) that makes it sound any "better". Maybe louder, or deeper, but all in you can waste a trailer truck full of money trying to "fix" something that's unfixable IHMO.

Best attempt to "fix" the non zcp F8x sound: Enjoy and bump up the volume!

This is one reason I got rid of my F80 to a 3.8 NA 2015 Porsche 911S
After driving E92 for 5 years, moving to F80 was an upgrade in every aspect except the engine, engine sound and linear acceleration which happened to be priorities for me.
I'd go back to M3 later if they go to V8 NA

I recall the e46 getting panned pretty badly for its exhaust noise too, and i always felt it had a tinny and raspy stock sound.
