Review BMS Stage 1

So I finally got round to installing my BMS stage 1, and thought it would be worth sharing my thoughts!

Install: really quite easy, as long as you have the right angle pick tool mentioned in other threads. I got them off eBay for a couple of quid. As mentioned in other reviews the second sensor is the hardest. I moved the intercooler overflow pot, and it made it a lot easier.

Review: it’s great. Really fun. Nice bump in power and third gear in particular is so much more savage now. Very happy that I installed this.

After a few hundred miles I’ll post again. Hopefully no faults etc.

Happy motoring!

Thanks for the review.. Its a great little bump in power at a great price.. Let us know what you think after a few weeks of seat time.

I personally think the car should have come like that from the factory.

200 miles later. Absolutely faultless. Only issue is the wet English roads make laying down the power difficult. This mod is excellent value for money!

Ya traction is an issue even with stock power.. Car should have xmoe with wider / better tires.

This is not ideal for the comp package because of the trans tune? i might have that wrong.

Non-CANbus tunes (like Stage1 and all piggybacks other than JB4) can't take in to account pedal input, throttle position, factory torque request, etc, so are more limited in how they apply power. On the comp cars Stage1 works but the JB4 works better.

BMS stage 1 is a great mod for the price but it is limited in its capabilities. The Jb4 will always be the better option

Mike, wouldn't all OBD BEF's be limited in capabilities that dont utilize canbus?

as far as the tune the BEF is way better than the JB4 and i'm still a big fan of it for WMI just not the engine management part of it.

I dont know if understood the question correctly.
Are you asking if the Jb4 is limited compared to JB4 + BEF?

You stated the JB4 will be a better option, and im trying to wrap my head how the JB4 is better for engine management aside from the JB4's obvious WMI application and the little gimmicks that require canbus, how is it superior to a BEF?

I never stated the JB4 to be better than BEF.
I was comparing the Jb4 to the Jb stage 1 and i said the Jb4 will always be the better option

LOL, I think you quoted the wrong Mike, so beer goggles indeed. Just to clarify a few things.

BEF = Back end flash

* Used in conjunction with a piggyback unit with the piggyback primarily in charge of boost control (think master/slave)

* It can be delivered via the OBDII port or bench flash depending on available options.

Flash tune = a full scale rewrite modification of the ECU's (DME in our case) tuning programmables.

* Delivery is no different from a BEF, but it is not to be confused as a BEF as it offers a wide range of engine parameter (fuel, ignition, boost) tuning.

and to add a back end flash would ONLY be compatible with the JB4, not to be used with the Stage1
