Thinking about a 2015 M3 with DCT - Any Issues?

I'm thinking of trading in my E70 for an F80 with Dual Clutch. Any mechanical issues or goofy things I need to worry about or consider? I would rather get a manual, but the poor wife wouldn't know how to drive it.

My daily driver is a 640 xDrive GC, needed the second car to be quicker (mid life crisis - 30yrs old). The last thing I need is anything unreliable, please help.

I always wanted a 4-door M3. I holds its value well, handles great, and it gives some of the so-called sport cars a run for their money. However, I need to be rational. Please let me know what's wrong with it (the bad)... Thanks in advance.

the DCT is fing amazing. I'd say its neck and neck with the porsche pdk, a friend of mine has a 2014 cayman s, and I've put alot of seat time in it. You wont regret the dct! Hiccups do happen once in awhile, its just about learning how to work with the transmission in all scenarios.

Dude you are 30, get out of the CEO car and get into something that matches your age.

The M3/4 is perfect for you, regardless of what transmission you choose.

Appreciate the quick feedback. The car as a whole, any mechanical issues I need to worry about? How long does the clutch last on the DCT?

Mid life crisis is really over 40 yrs old. You're too young for that. And yes, this is the time to get an M car...

Trade that boat you're driving now and go get one....

There's been a few reported issues, but very few serious ones it seems like. It's kind of too new to say for sure. As far as the DCT, it's an evolution of the one in the previous M3, and from what I understand those haven't had many issues. Presumably this new one will be even better. So I don't think it's something to worry about until long after the warranty is expired.

I talked to the service foreman at my local BMW dealer that does huge volume. He said that the DCT is the best thing that BMW ever did b/c of how bulletproof they are. He had told me that he hasn't seen a single DCT issue come through his shop, ever.

LOL, if I live past 60 then it's bonus years. I will keep my 640xDrive GC, I love that thing. I haven't been much fan of SUVs (I haven't gone off road once with my SUVs), my X5 def have to go if I pull the trigger.

In conclusions, you guys are saying the DCT is solid and the M3 is a go. Will post photos if I pull the trigger. Thanks...

There would be no shortage of threads here if the DCT was crap. Trust me one thing about the forum is that if there are even a few of the same issues going on it's lobbied for an all out recall campaign.

You don't need to pull teeth here to get responses of issues, just do a search. The DCT is jerky and rough and hold gears a little too long for the street - if your trying to navigate in full sport modes everywhere. Dial the shift back to D2 / Sport mode / comfort suspension and it's great DD if you ask me.

OP: DCT on F80 appears robust at least in the short term. Tranny shifts faster than most humans. I love it on my 2015 M3. 30 for midlife...wow, I just turned 40 and have been saving for this car for a decade...you are lucky my friend

I also have the DCT and have had zero issues. It shifts faster and smoother than my E92 M3.

THANKS FOR ALL YOUR INPUT, picked my first M vehicle. Mineral Grey Metallic, Silverstone Extended Leather, Executive Package, and M DCT. Now I just have to figure out how to change the Navigation to night mode when the headlights are on.

More Photos to come. Any quick mod suggestions?

Just curious since this post is now several years older. Has anyone had any issues with their 15 M3 DCT? I am looking to get into my first M3 either a 15 or 16. Any suggestions please?

Nope. And took the DCT in my E93 to 101k miles with no issues.

Currently at 35k on the F83, no PDK (or really any other) issues.

Cheers

Once you're outside of the free maintenance window, services are expensive (e.g. $200 for an oil change). I've successfully negotiated with my dealer on service several times, recommend that or a highly-rated indie shop.

Tires ain't cheap, and you will use them

Every once in a while (have had it happen on both cars, about twice per year), some electronics component will randomly not work. It will work again after the car is switched off and switched back on. While I'm not a fan of this, I work in the tech industry and complex ish doesn't always work flawlessly...so can't complain.

Other than that, nothing to report. Oh yeah, have had a rock in the disc shield twice Easy fix

Cheers

I've had three cars with DCT (e92, f82, f83) and no issues. I really love the transmission.
