Traded my 13 M6 for a 16 M4

I went from E46 M to E93 M, but decided to upsize with a beautiful San Marino Blue M6. Great cruiser, ots of power, and surprisingly large (except back seats). Well after nearly 3 years, the warranty expired and the cost of maintenance and repair was too much (plus Auto Pom and Easy Care said no coverage for M6).

Picked up a 2016 Mineral White over full Sakhir Orange, no accidents or service issues and so far I am quite happy. Not a comp pack, but I don't track and there is always 3rd party mods. Also had the safety option, once you get used to blind spot monitoring, its hard to go back (I still look but...) and carbon fiber trim (others locally I was cross shopping had brushed aluminum or wood.

Great - congrats! Was it the one at Braman or Vista (or neither)?

OP - I know you don't need it now, do you plan on adding a 3rd party warranty to your new M (not sure what platform). I have a 2015 almost out of warranty and was thinking about going with EasyCare sold by Braman. I'm really torn if I should take my chances or spend the $3500 for piece of mind.

OP/RickFL4 - are either of you going to Cars and Coffee this Sunday in Palm Beach? I plan on going.

Not to highjack the thread. I am hoping to make to C&C this weekend. Ended up getting a 2015 M4 in Sakhir Orange at the beginning of September. Usually go regularly but haven't been since i got rid of my 2017 Grand Sport for the M4. Hoping to meet up with some M owners.

Did you happen to get the 2015 at Braman WPB?

I got mine at a small dealer in Plantation. Its a 2016, no accidents, full service history, no warranty issues. 14 months left on factory warranty.

"do you plan on adding a 3rd party warranty to your new M" Yes I will, probably the BMW Platinum Warranty. Served me well for my 13 M6. Shop around, some dealers discount by $250 and some states do not charge sales tax (I got mine in Maryland and saved $800).

I paid a shade under $50k, plus got highest trade in for my car (by 3.5k).

Buying a 2015 was out (warranty expired), and this car had options I wanted (exec, adaptive, lighting, safety and full leather).

I will probably show up at C&C. Should I bring:

( ) 2016 M4
( ) 1990 E30 Vert
( ) 1965 Corvair vert

Ordinarily I'd say the Corvair, but I'd take the M4 since you just got it.

Congrats on the "new" car. Did they ever find out why the M6 you had was consuming so much oil?

Congrats, I am picking up my M4 this afternoon. This is the longest I've gone (I sold my i8 to Algar Ferrari 5 months ago) without a BMW in 30 years, and the M4 is BMW #42.

Congratulations! We have a 2013 M6 vert as well and warranty ends in March so have begun looking for replacement. It has been 100% rock solid reliable but not worth the risk of one repair costing more than getting newer car with warranty.

Have been considering the M4 as a replacement but still a bit hesitant due to the not so great sound. The m6 isn't anything special either compared to the older NA cars, but still better than M4, which was one of the main reasons we went with it above the m4 3 years ago.

Would love to hear more as you get more time behind the wheel with regards to pros and cons of the car! Years back I went from an E63 M6 to E92 M3 and couldn't have been happier loved both cars, but have been more hesitant on this Gen m4 even though there are quite a few things I love about the car. Also didn't see it posted if you went with the vert or coupe this time around? Would love to see some pics!!

Personally I prefer the M4 over the M6:

Pros:
Louder
better dash layout
no stupid hump behind steering wheel
sharper nav screen
seats are more comfortable
lighter
more nimble
easier to park
more rear seat room and room for a windscreen even though I sit further back

cons:
smaller screen
smaller trunk

Glad I made the switch back.
