Love the wheels, but think the forged magnesium Porsche is putting on the GT2RS (from the 918) are likely the better option.
These are quite pretty though.

I think CF would crack, not bend.

Other than the fact they're carbon, they aren't very attractive. I never liked the look of a carbon wheel personally, they just look out of place to me.

That's sick looking. I guess I am behind the curve here, but a friend was telling me about Forged Carbon. That Lambo is using it for their rods and pistons inside the Huracan. That's insane. $32k just for rods.

Typically, carbon fiber will not bend or deform. It will shatter, but only under extreme load. Blackstone BST has been making carbon fiber wheels for motorcycles for the last 15+ years using a similar technique as shown on the Porsche video. BST was demonstrating the strength of the wheels at Laguna Seca by bouncing a bear wheel off the concrete without any damage. The wheel was bouncing more than 10 feet into the air. The weight difference and performance benefits on a motorcycle are extreme. The BST wheels make my YZF-R1 as flickable as a 250. Acceleration, braking, and turn-in are all dramatically improved. I hope the improvement will be as dramatic for a car, but I seriously doubt it. One thing that is interesting to me is that the BST Carbon fiber wheels are so uniform, I have never once needed a weight to balance the tires. Could just be luck, but I've never had such luck with any other set of wheels (car or bike).

One thing I would like to understand is how Porsche's wheels deal with the heat produced by heavy braking. Bike's don't typically produce the kind of heat seen on a car, and if they do, the brakes cool much quicker.

They are currently using it for aero pieces and trim on the Performante. I do believe they have said they would like to use the tech for connecting rods, but that is off in the distance, at earliest 2020. I doubt seeing them use it for pistons.

Shit, he sent me a link about it. I need to find it and share it on here. It stated they were already using the technology.

Like the other guy, I haven't heard about this being used for high strength/temp parts like rods and pistons, from what I read previously, it sounded like a faster and cheaper process for making CFRP type structures.
