VTT CBC
So i’m interested in buying the VTT CBC for my S55 M4. I do notice there’s two different versions of it, the normal one and the one that comes with a spine lock solution.
Normal: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-vargas-t...t-s55-cbc~vtt/ Spine Lock Package: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-vargas-t...-crankhub-1~v/ Is the spine lock package really worth the extra price? I feel like just the CBC will do just fine, would love to hear your guys opinions. Also if you have any of these, have you had any issues? |

Dang prices have jumped!! I bought the combo from Mike @ Extreme.
I have both but with that said, what's your comfort level and what gives you the warm and fuzzy feeling? Remember that CBC alone is not the full solution but definitely is better than nada..

If you plan on keeping your M3/M4 long term, it's a good idea to do SplineLock/CBC.
We keep the VTT Splinelock kits in stock.

Below is the link to a thread that's dedicated to the CBC alone. While the spline lock may be considered the "full fix", to date there have yet to be any confirmed spun hubs (outside of money shifting) with just the CBC installed.

Since it hasn't really been answered.
The CBC in link#1 is just that the CBC goes over the stock crank hub, the other one link#2 is for the upgraded crank hub that includes a CBC but the main point of link#2 is to replace the crank hub which outside of costing more for the part is much more expensive to install. A few hundred for the CBC a few thousand for the hub. Though you are in California so there are many really good shops that will do the install correct and for competitive prices. The bigger issue we run into is us who do not live by a shop that does the crank hub regularly really ups the cost along with the confidence it is done right. Basically link1 is an addon to the stock system that can prevent one of the failure points of the stock crank hub. Link2 changes the stock crank hub to an aftermarket one along with putting the capture on it. |

1. Do your own due diligence and make your own decision on which route is best for you. There is a huge conflict of interest for shops and vendors to sell the more expensive option. $100 CBC + $300-500 for installation vs $750 spline lock + $2000-3000 in labor.
2. If you are not planning to put serious power (upgraded turbos), CBC will be more than sufficient. There are a dozen of us on here pushing max stock turbo power with a CBC only including me.

I'm looking into this mod/preventative maintenance ( CBC only ). Any know of some competent shops in So Cal ( near Ventura County ) that can do this install at a fairly reasonable price?

Yes I used the VTT CBC with another crank hub solution. It fits over the crank bolt which is the same for every upgraded crank hub.
