1) What you hit and what what angle. 2) Whether you impact said object at full rate of travel, or whether you scrub speed either by skidding or braking first. These two factors make it very difficult to nail down an exact rate of travel from wreckage photographs. If you're traveling at 70 MPH and you hit a concrete pillar (like the kind that supports a roadway bridge) without slowing down at all, it's going to do some serious damage. On the other hand, I was once driving 75 MPH on I-95 here in South Florida when a woman in a Mazda 3, driving with one hand, talking on a cell phone, blew by me, swerved left off the roadway, over-corrected, and went skidding in to a stand of pine trees. Her car was hardly damaged! She skidded so long over the road (she did a complete 360 across three lanes of traffic and hit no one) and through the dirt that her car had a chance to slow down a lot. She got out of the car and was so un-phased that her primary concern was "oh my god where is my phone?" If I had to guess, I'd say this person was traveling faster than 70 or 80 MPH, but it's hard to say exactly how fast. If they skid in to the dirt and the car started rolling while they were still going +50 MPH, this kind of damage isn't all that unexpected. On the other hand, they could have been doing +100 MPH and skidded for a while before rolling. Who knows?

I've been pretty calm lately too, it wasn't the pics but Redmond pd has started a campaign against us, a dude got a ticket for going less than 5 miles over the limit a few days ago. I had to get a set of tires to the Audi too. 3500 is going to be spent by me to tires alone this week and that number indeed makes me maybe leave the lights without tail flying around for once. I think it is safe to say milk is getting expensive.

If you are going to change lanes it is entirely your responsibility to verify that the lane you are going into is in fact open. Rate of travel is irrelevant, especially when the rate of travel is within legal limits.

Just for info, it doesn't matter what my or your opinion is- the law states that if you change lanes and are rear ended on the autobahn you are at fault.

Haha, only one choice and idiotic wheels. Plus the sum has Peter's rubber in it. I just am going to be an adult from now on and not destroy tires. Man, I did not know you can turn awd cars ruber bald in less than ten thousand miles, but I am going to be an adult about this and hide the invoice...

I didn't read 6 pages, but you do realize the roof was most likely cut off of the car to extract the driver, right?
The roof didn't just fall off the car.

The video posted of member Powaup posted by F20E30 is one of the most reckless pieces of driving I've ever seen caught on camera. I won't be doing so, but if someone sends that to the CHP I would understand it. Imagine a family (observing every law) coming the other way with no idea there's 3600lbs of metal flying at them in the wrong direction...

Have you ever been passed by someone doing 70 MPH faster than you? I haven't, but I have been passed by someone of the crazy ass South Florida drivers that will do 100+ MPH on I-95. When someone is closing in on you at a rate of closure greater than 50 MPH, it is really hard to judge just how fast they're coming. Mirrors are small, and difficult to estimate rate of closure, because the other vehicle isn't translating across your field of view; they're simply getting bigger. All I'm saying is that as the person traveling at 150 MPH looking forward, you should consider that the guy in front of you has a harder time seeing you than you do seeing him. I'm not absolving myself of responsibility during a lane change. To the contrary. I advocate keeping your ass in the right lane unless necessary. That makes it easier for faster traffic and safer for everyone, because you're behaving predictably.
