This may be silly... but more often than not when I'm looking for a new car (12-16 months on average) I start counting how many I see on the road in a month.

Nothing bugs me more than going to and from work and seeing two other basically identical cars.

Hence my M4's. I've already started looking at another car last weekend.

It was a 911 Carrera, but in a week I saw four of them.

So now I've moved onto the Targa.

Yes they are the same basic car but it's easy to pick out the differences.

Even that might not be enough of a difference for me.

How many Mustangs do you see in a week/month compared to an M3/4?
I see Mustangs and Camaros everywhere makes me get bored of the car without even owning it. but I very rarely see M cars which makes them very unique

The regular 3-4 series cars are pretty close looking to m3/4, just like how regular mustangs are close looking to a gt350. You can talk yourself out of any car with that type of thing, unless you are going super exclusive

The new GT PP will get the shocks from the GT350, and I'm sure revised sway bars and bushings to match.
The updated 2018 Mustang GT also revs higher and has more power. Plus the new 10-speed auto.

Yeah, that too.

Off topic, but how do you like the SR22?

I would love to be able to fly one of those, I'm stuck in the C-172.

I've had both. M3 all day. Especially if you are expecting kids down the road.

The 2018 Mustang GT is now 460 HP / 420 LB-Ft torque. 0-60 MPH under 4 seconds.

I'm struggling to get 17 with my Mustang. Again, it is pretty fun of a car. The stock sound system is awful, and the bone stock interior is bland as hell. It is a fun car, and beautiful to look at though.

The M3 and M4 have long been 'realistic' dream cars of mine.
I average roughly 16 MPG in my ZCP - I have found that you really have to baby it to get more than 20 MPG average.

With that being said, most of my driving is North Texas highway, where speed enforcement isn't exactly consistent.

I wonder what that's like, from an automatic tranny but self-shifting mode standpoint? Hell there are times I am cruising along on the freeway in 5th, just because I have not shifted into 6th or 7th...I can't imagine what shifting to 10th would be like.

Can you imagine what the manual version of that gearbox would look like? obviously it doesn't exist, but the mental image is very amusing to think about.

Sharing my experience....

I went from a 2010 Mustang GT 5.0 (first Coyote engine) to the 2015 F80 M3 for all the reasons mentioned. I even did the European Delivery and Performance Center Delivery. Which is highly recommended.

I've tracked both cars and used as daily driver...and the thing I missed the most about the Mustang is the NA engine and instant throttle response and the beautiful sound of a V8. Had the Borla S-Type car back.

M3 is a superior car in every way. It is quiet and comfortable. Your spouse and kids will thank you but it is missing the fun factor. The M3 is good at many things but not great at one thing.

So I'd say get the M3 as a family and daily driver and another track machine to satisfy the urge.

Which is why I'm got the Shelby GT350R.

the next gen m3/m4 will probably have AWD and it's own fancy automatic solution just like the upcoming F90 M5...

until then, competition from rivals and domestics will continue to close the gap in performance but probably not in build quality and luxury appointments.

They have already closed the gap and then some.

M division has soften quite a bit. Even M trimmed cars now are more luxury than Motorsports performance.

One only needs to look at the shock tuning and MDM calibrations to know this.

I have forever owned American muscle cars and thought all else was shit until a sunny day in October of 2016 changed my life forever. I test drove a 2017 M3 and was absolutely blown away by the performance, styling, comfort, and sex appeal. I haven't looked back since and just recently placed my order. Do it! Test drive one and you shall see what I'm talking about.
