I've always loved the exterior looks of the RS5s. And the interior, even on the older model, much better too. Thus, I'd go with the RS5.

I certainly would cross shop these two cars. I always liked Audis although I obviously liked BMWs better. I suspect the M3 would be the better track car but perhaps the Audi would be the better bet day to day. Certainly they are worthy competitors.

Thanks God, the next gen Audis will recieve rwd platforms. Probably even the upcoming a4.
And such a shame that this a5(new a8, upcoming a6/7) has recieved an fwd platform with a huge and ugly front overhang. This is the only reason I don't like them: fwd proportions. |

I gather you are referring to the rumored VAG platform consolidation that would see the MSB matrix (Panamera, Bentley) replace the MLB matrix (Audi Longitudinal). The thing is, this is alleged to cover only the A6 and above.

RWD 6MT 50/50 Balance vs FWD based AWD torque converter auto? Easy choice there.

RS5 can't touch the M4 Competition on track.
The other things don't really matter |

I would choose the *faster RS3 and TTRS with that magical 5 cylinder symphony before I would go for the V6 RS5. I personally think it looks stubby.
The F8x platform looks sleek and beautiful, after almost 4 years it's still stunning. Also the S55 is an amazing power plant. The Audi wins in the traction department, though. I also love Audi interiors.

The RS5 looks very nice, and also available in AWD. I miss that on my M3 Hopefully BMW will release the M5 quick

RS5 looks more agressive with a much better interior and the LCI does make up more ground but I'd still choose the Audi for exterior styling (except those hideous rims). Interior also goes to the Audi and I like it better than anything currently offered by BMW, not impressed with the new g30/g11 more an evolution than revolution like the Audi's interior. Sound wise I'm not a fan of either but would pick the M4 its louder and Audi's always sound like they only rev to 3k and are overwhelmed by burbling. Overall I'd still pick the M4 because of its handling and driving dynamics, but Audi has caught up fast and wouldn't be surprised if they stole BMW customers with this effort

The RS5 has presence and definitely a lot of engineering and design poured-in. Still, the M4 is the more dynamic car (inherently designed for light weight and performance on-track). Both probably great DD cars. For a DD/DE car - M4 all day. Hey, this is a BMW board after all...

I like the new Audi for what it is. Deal breakers for me are those weird wheels and how busy the bumpers are.
Cool car but design doesn't do it for me

Jesus, the Audi sounds TERRIBLE. And people complained about the M4 sound? Good Lord. The thing sounds like it's bouncing off a 3k RPM rev limiter. The M4 sounds like a Ferrari by comparison. (I said "by comparison", put down the flamethrowers.)
