The "traditional delay" had the sedan following the coupe, and there's virtually no chance it will happen that way this time given that M3 development cars were seen a couple months (if not more) before M4 development cars. Also, consider that the E36 M3 sedan came much later than the coupe while the E90 M3 was developed right along side the E92 (but had slightly later initial availability, especially for Europe where the coupe was released months before it was here). So there really has not been consistency in the past in the first place.

Increasingly it looks as though availability of the coupe and sedan will come at the same time, and it should be sometime in the 2nd or 3rd quarter next year. If this happens, by the way, it will represent a roughly one-year advance from when availability for the M4 had been expected (for US customers), and means it will come closer to the release of its series counterpart than ever before. Consider, for example, that the E92 M3 concept did not release until the Geneva show in March following the release of the E92 3 Series around this same time seven years ago (summer 2006). This time we get the concept directly on the heels of the 4 Series. The rest of the timeline is likely to be similarly accelerated. To wit, as we already know, the production cars come in Detroit in January.

I had an interesting conversation with a colleague in Japan as I am en-route to showcase the i3 to BMW Japan.

The M3 Sedan is now expected to launch at the Tokyo Motor show in December with the M4 , X4 and another premiere for NAIAS.

The previous E90 M3 Sedan had its world premiere at Tokyo 2007 along with the BMW 1er Concept Tii.

So if the production M3 is being presented a month earlier (Dec; compared to the M4 in Jan), will the SOP for the M3 begin before the M4 or will it be considered a wash and both will begin production at the same time?

Has the Pebble Beach date been confirmed or is it still just "August"? I just looked at my calendar and guess what, it says August

Here is a link which shows whats going at, what is called, the Pebble Beach Automotive week. Note, it is a 5 day event culminating with the "Concours day", Sunday the 18th.

http://www.pebblebeachconcours.net/pages/3005

I am told the Concept Cars, shown on the 18th, are going to be located primarily at the Practice Putting Green with, if necessary, over flow cars on the Peter Hay Hill, par 3 course. The Practice Putting Green is closed only 1 day of the year and that's Concours day. Which means the M4 might only be available to see on that one day. On the other hand, if they park it on the overflow site, it might be available for viewing for more than that.
The website gives a number to call for tickets but they also answer questions.

Here in Tokyo? Wow... both M3 & M4? Production version or concept model from Pebble Beach?
Sorry to ask you a lot of question. I got excited

Who is this someone? It will be a great test for your information channels. It an M3 concept shows up, your credibility belt gets tightened a notch. We'll see...

Here we go with the "German forum" sources again. Anyone can post anything on a German forum, but that doesn't give it instant credibility.

This is clearly right (the same as in US forums) ... but this info is not from an german forum, but from an insider how speaks about an M3 sucessor as concept car in Peeble Beach ... this can be interpreted in two ways ... the real M3 successor the F80M3 or the M3 coupe sucessor the F80M4 !?

This brings me to my question ... neither more nor less !!!

I think it just means the M3 successor, not M3. Maybe he/she/it/they meant that the M4 was the successor to the E92...

Link to said forum, Uli?
