the new Z is going to smoke anything with a M badge. not to mention look insanely aggressive.

of course Ms will have more luxury and classy appeal to them.

the Z should cost more than a M4 also.

Interesting thread. For me, Silvestone as a color drains the drama out of the F82, in contrast to previous photos such as AY. The bolder colors add character along with CF roof.

Silver also suffers from the overwhelming number of economy cars in shades of silver. When my teenage son looked for his first car, it was a silver Camry because they are as bland and innocuous a color that disappears in traffic. Perfect choice if your goal is to disappear into a background.

Someone photoshop that M4 w/diff color, plz.

Those photos hurts my eyes and that M4 looks very un-M like. The s550 Mustang looks so much better and with more character. Or this car simply doesn't look good in light colors. Either way, I really hope BMW hits it out of the park with the M2, or some hatch. If not, I think I am done with them.

Anyone know why BMW made the Coupe bigger/longer than the e92..? Wasn't the 3-series getting too big as it was ?

I'm sorry but SS II looks so much better in person than I photos. Personally i think SS II looks really good and really shows the lines I the e90. I have had tons of people ask about the color. I love that it is not basic silver which stands out yet does not scream look at me. Then again, I also had CarbonBlack which does the blue/black look.

I'm so disappointed with how it looks I hope in the metal it looks a lot better but this has no presence or sexyness! And it's no understated - it just looks bad

You guys are overacting. The problems with the pictures are that they were taken from very close to the subject, using a camera (most likely a cellphone camera) with a wide angle lens, and most of the pictures (but not all) were taken at eye level.

With a wide angle lens and close to the subject, the image is distorted. That is why you don't see the flared fenders on the rear. Pictures taken at eye level and close to the subject are going to be weird. Any color would look bad in these conditions.

Professional car pictures (magazines or the BMW M3/4 press pictures) are usually taken with a long lens from a distance so the subject is not distorted.

The side vent needs to run the height of the door. I am not sure why designer though this tiny vent would look good.

This new bumper looks - well...after market rice!

Those air scoops are going to catch more than air imho.
+1

That front bumper looks even more ridiculous in those amateur photos than in the professional marketing photos.

After-market rice sums it up nicely lol. That bumper is juvenile, ricey and boy-racer.....was the designer high when he came up with this bumper idea??

Work test car blends into the crowd

This, "work, test car," is in absolute sleeper guise. Debadged, non-matching wheels, dark on the rear, dated wheel design up front, grandma colors on the interior and exterior that also do not match, no CF roof and tinted windows make this car look like a middle aged woman in rollers at the mall parking lot.

I cannot recall tinted windows ever extending or accenting any car design. The same can be said of silver car paint combined with polished or black wheels. Also BMW tan interior is the most understated color in their palette.

Alpine white, silver 359m, CF roof and fox red interior were a combo with a CF spoiler on my e92 M3, and the car was a head turner. Even guys on bikes would pull up to give me a thumbs up. I am sure there will be a combo that will make the M4 come alive. And, I am sure that the combo on this test car is not the one.

Ignoring all this cosmetic antithesis, this M4 is longer at the wheelbase, and wider. The luxury for the rear seat passenger is magnified and exploited over the e92. This car will probably show very well with colors and wheels such as those that make an M6 look good.

For sure, this work test car is flying under the radar for testing purposes.

Professional pictures taken with the technique you mentioned severely "flatten" the subject and the car will look distorted, but in a different way from these pics. For example, from a front quarter shot, the rear of the car will appear much larger than it would in reality. This was done on a lot of the M4 marketing shots, and the car looks out of proportion IMO.

The pics in this thread are not taken with a wide angle lens BTW.

The only way to get a "non distorted" shot is to use a 28mm lens, which matches the natural focal length of the human eye. Most cell phone cameras are close to this. The iPhone, for example, uses a 30mm equivalent. I think it's safe to say these pictures are probably more representative of what it looks like in real life than any marketing photos of the car.

I saw my first Corvette Stingray on the freeway the other day, man..I'm usually not a fan of GM products, but that car looks like it belongs to the future.

I also saw an all black 428i the other day, that car looked so bland it made the F30 sedan look so much sporty.

I'll hold my judgement until I see the real thing, but so far, my E92 popped way more than the new M4 when I saw the first reveals.

Well we tried, Sherlock...
At least we can both agree on lines.

Any ideas on what these odd and symmetrically placed front bumper dots are for?

I personally think it will look much better in person. And maybe in a different color. With different wheels. We're putting too much weight on these "spy" pictures and piling up on this poor M4.

I'm sure you'll love it!

The M4 in Silverstone looks very suitable for the car with the essence of modernity, dynamism and freshness!
