Question What exactly is the Automatic High Beams?

So you know this button on the left hand side turning signal, if you press it, you see a green icon which is for the automatic high beams that are supposed to automatically turn on the high beams when it's dark...

Is that the same thing as the Anti-Dazzle feature? My car is bought from dubai but it says M4 EUR so it should have the Anti-Dazzle feature...

What I am trying to ask is....how does this work...I've seen a YouTube video and it looks cool.......but is it supposed to like avoid flashing on coming cars when you manually turn on the high beams or is it supposed to avoid flashing both the car in front of you AND the on coming traffic?

Here are my car options if it matters:

hmm. this video sort of answered my question as it explains it in more detail...so indeed, it seems the Adaptive LEDs only work when you press the BC Button every time you start the car:

Anti dazzle ? never heard of that one, but the auto high beam green icon turns the high beams on when really dark and does turn off when theres a car on the other side. Not sure how accurate it is since it rarely comes on in la and about the car in front of you there was none at the time to test. It did come on tho when dark and turned off for on coming cars.

Wonder how the night vision is on the 5 and 7 models!

Works great. I had it on my E92 as well and used it all the time on the back roads. High beams flip off as soon as it detects an oncoming car.

At first, I thought it wasn't working, I even took it to the dealership to have it checked....

seems like the High Beams come on automatically only if:

a) you are in a REALLY dark area
b) you are driving above 30 MPH

so if you were going slow in a dark area to test if they would work, they wouldn't until you step on it

There are a lot of threads on this.

You can code in Euro Spec Anti Dazzle so the high beams turn on more w/ lighting conditions.

In default without any coding, high beams won't adjust and won't turn on when it detects any sort of lighting.

but as mentioned in the OP, my car is already a Euro spec M4 so there's nothing for me to code

There are different things to coding that can give the car and it's sensor more room to adjust accordingly. I have it on my M4 currently and seeing it adjust on the freeway with some lighting and cars on the opposite side is pretty amazing to look at. Little known fact about the sensor in front of the M4 is extremely sophisticated. It can do way more than default that is given.

Anti-Dazzle/Auto High Beams are constantly spoken about in the coding forum sub-section here. Just look there.

I have it on my 435 and rarely use it because they almost never come on because it's never that dark where I live and drive. If you live and drive in any major metropolitan area, you'll barely use it.

I want the dazzle effect. So we can code it to do that?

Your Euro car has the full Adaptive LED feature -high beam assistance and the Anti-Dazzle (Intelligent). You should notice after activation the headlights light beam moving left/right, high/low, and changing pattern at night depending of light and traffic conditions.

yes indeed, I don't know if this is standard but...when I turn on the car/lights...I see them move slightly.... might not have anything to do with the anti-Dazzle feature but just wanted to mention it.

In Dubai, we don't have a situation where cars are coming the opposite way as all the roads have a partition dunno if the anti-dazzle could reach that far on the other side in order to not blind people but I guess it should.

As for turning on in the dark, everywhere is so lit here all the time I've only seen them come on automatically when time when I went into some dark spot on purpose and drove fast

The anti-dazzle only works when cars are either in front or coming the opposite way. You will see that the light pattern will cover most of the surroundings except those cars, even with the high beams active. This light pattern will actively change depending of the position of the cars as they move.

You cannot miss it if active.

supremely limited use case for US metropolitan cars. i've had the auto high beam (set once and forget) on my 2011 RRS autobio and i can count on one hand how many times i actually found it useful in the past 7 years of ownership and 50K miles.

let me also add that the reflector LED light output sucks in comparison to the projector based LED lights (eg '16 prius c). almost as embarrassing as $200K RR autobios shipping with HIDs to this day.

yeah for me, the high beams only came on like twice and that was in a very dark area and they only get activated I think above 60-70 KM/H, pretty useless, when I need them I'd rather simply turn them on manually.

Yes, Dubai cars, get the (EUR) designation so Euro specs, that means, Euro MDM and Euro Anti-Dazzle by default

If I check my car's VIN on bimmer.works, it says M4 (EUR)
