Do we agree?

I have the standard M3 and have driven the Comp Pack and if the Comp Pack was an option when i purchased, I would've checked the box. Its a solid improvement. |

"Acceleration aside, that 136 grand can be felt in other areas; though it’s up to you to decide if throwing this much cash at firmer suspension and grippier handling is worth it or not. Springs, dampers and swaybars have all been tweaked to make the Competition a bit more deft in corners and on track, where it’s certainly more planted than a standard M4." |

Regardless of whether the Competition Package is worth the price, other than clickbait, I fail to see the value in publishing numbers that are so vastly out of sync with what reputable automotive publications have been able to reproduce. It's junk data as far as I'm concerned.

Only read the first few paragraphs which was long enough to see them admit that tests were done on different days as in "these numbers mean absolutely nothing". Also sounds like test were done at 5k+ altitude, which coupled with poor driving skills (assuming the authors driving skills are on par with his writing skills), would completely explain the difference in BMW's quoted time's and this one persons results over multiple days

Have a look at this thread: http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1376759
Looking at 0-100km/h acceleration single test numbers in isolation is pretty meaningless. First, due to test-to-test variation. Second, because 0-100km/h is highly dependent on traction. In the thread I referenced, I averaged multiple tests for 100 to 200km/h acceleration numbers to get a better feel for the difference in power. It shows that, on average, the CP is about 0.3 seconds faster from 100 to 200km/h than a base M3/4. It is not a huge difference, but it is not negligible. Further, the CP is not only about the power boost. As the article and previous posters mention, it is also about a suspension tuning more aggressively biased towards improving the handling with stiffer springs, anti roll bars, wider tires and recalibrated electronics. The CP is not necessarily for everyone, but for those who prefer a slight bias towards sharper handling over a more comfortable ride, the CP is the right choice.

Also, our tracks here in South Africa are nowhere near as good as the ones in the US. So that 400m time is about right. |
