New MWM M4 Owner
Greetings everyone! I'm stoked to say as of February 13, 2017, I'm the new owner of a 2016 Mineral White Metallic 6-spd manual M4. I've had a 2004 M3 SMG vert and 2008 335i 6AT coupe in the past, and I'm delighted to be back in a Bimmer and part of the forums.
The car, which I have colloquially named the Wütend Panda, is in beautiful condition with only 8,000 miles -- still has a great new car smell! The previous owner was an older guy who bought it locally (Jacksonville, FL) from our BMW dealership but ended up trading for a calmer, larger Lexus. His loss is my gain! It's got pretty much every option installed minus a sunroof (which is fine bc the black carbon fiber roof + the OEM black 19s on MWM paint is ). Just for some context: After driving a 2005 Acura TL for a few years and saving the benjamins, I decided to splurge. I was cross-shopping with some smaller cars (2013 911 S, 2015-16 Jaguar F-Type R, new Corvette Grand Sport), and initially I didn't think the M4 would come out on top. It was on the list because I felt it "had" to be, not necessarily because I wanted it to be. Ruled the Vette out quickly without a test drive (just couldn't get around the fact that it's a Chevy... I know, I know. Snobby. I'm not proud, but it is what it is.). Looked at a couple F-Type Rs and, surprisingly, I didn't get an automotive arousal the way I thought I would... nice cars, but for whatever reason it just wasn't for me. Really felt the small size and the interior left a little to be desired IMO (maybe the steering wheel design killed it... idk). Going into all of this, I though the Jag would win out. Anyway, queue the showdown between the M4 and 911 S. The red 911 Carrera S (2013) was also a manual and had a pretty good features list (but for some crazy reason, parking sensors/back up camera was not on it). Wow, it was fun to drive! But after driving it back to back with the M4, I just couldn't shake the feeling that I wanted the 911 to be more amazing than I felt it was. Were my expectations too stratospheric? Probably. But there were a couple other considerations for these two cars, specifically: -2016 BMW tech/ICE interface > 2013 Porsche tech/ICE interface -2016 M4 HK audio > 2013 911 Bose audio (I know some people don't care about audio in cars like these, but this is my DD and I produce music on the side... so for me a good factory sound system adds a lot of value) -M4 interior > 911 interior (I absolutely LOVE my M4's black + tan full leather interior w/ carbon fiber trim... so much great stitching work!) -Obviously M4 has a practicality advantage, but whatever. I knew that going in. -Bimmer was $10k cheaper with 20k less miles Ended up choosing the M4 in a relatively easy fashion and haven't questioned my decision once! Negotiated to a pre-down payment price of $62,000 taxes/fees included, and I'm happy with figure given the condition of the car and all the options installed. It's stock now, but only for the extremely near future (thanks to these forums which have gotten me mod-happy in the last week lol). I've got some parts on order and am anxiously awaiting delivery/installation... here's what's in the works: -IND painted front reflectors (MWM) -IND painted front grille surround (glossy black) -IND painted side markers (glossy black) -Glossy Black M4 trunk badge from CP -JBSpeed carbon fiber rear diffuser -BMS 15mm spacers (front) and 12mm spacers (rear) -BMW M-Performance HAS lowering kit I've also got an Escort Max 360 radar detector hardwired in the car. I'm considering doing some Dinan upgrades later in the year (exhaust, maybe Stage 2 tune, carbon intake down the road along with a MWM painted engine cover). But those will have to wait while I re-route some income back to my savings account. Here are a couple quick pics. I'll take more as I go including as mods get completed! Looking forward to joining y'all on our M3/M4 journeys!! -Matt Last edited by MillenniumOsprey; 02-20-2017 at 05:21 PM.. |

Yes! I really wanted a manual again. I'm convinced if my BMW test drive had been with a DCT M4, the manual 911 would've stood out a little more. Nothing at all against DCT Ms -- can't argue with their shift speed. Just personal preference at this point. I think Jag only offering the F-Type R w/ an automatic hurt it in my book, as well. |
