Maintenance of frozen paints is actually easier than regular paints if you use the correct products, I have owned both.
I've never seen a full wrap matte in person so can't argue against what you are saying. Only going by what some said was the reason they wrap their cars. It was said color change wraps got big because some wanted matte finishes and that was the easy way to get it done with low maintenance

I'd love to see both side by side. Also would love to see a well done gloss or pearl wrap job done but have not seen that yet either in the flesh

Frozen colors remind me of the muscle car days of the 70's when I'd see them driving around in their primer coats until they were painted.

I was just about to say that.

My dad has a POS 79 Camaro drag car (hey, for $3000 total investment it's fun for him, I don't see the appeal of drag racing but what the hell). That shit box is primer. I asked my father if he was going to paint it he replied "hell no! Why would I want to show off how shitty the body on that bucket of bolts is?!" ... My Dad is a character

For a BMW, take my Dad's point... "frozen" paint hides the lines. I imagine the designers cringe that their beautiful lines are hidden by paint that doesn't catch light in the traditional way.

BTW... "Frozen" is about as clever as "Speed Cloth" although I would rather have the latter... I hate the fact that we can't get cloth seats in the US....different topic to bitch about lol.

Still think Dakar Yellow would look better than any Matte finish. Make my night and photoshop some dakar on there.

first off, Frozen paint isn't anything like primer. it has a satin finish, that's not matte like a primer body.

i love gloss paint jobs and frozen paint jobs.....they both have their positive effects on a body like the E9X M3. but, the one thing a Frozen paint job doesn't do is hide the lines of a car's design.

if anything Frozen accentuates the muscular angles of car body like the E9X M3...something gloss jobs overshadow at times. the M3 has been said to be a stealth super car at times....it's design doesn't scream sports car like a Viper or something. a Frozen paint job brings out those subtle features we all love.

take a look at my car....a please tell me you can't see all the awesome lines and sculpted angles of the M3...

hey, the a Frozen paint job is not for everybody. no biggie.opinions are one thing....but let's stop disparaging something with false rumors about it's care or inaccurate accounts about it's appearance. if you don't like it, just say that. no need for inaccuracies.

the type of comments a frozen paint job generates here , you'd think it was the now standard color of what your next BMW would be. like they stopped manufacturing gloss jobs at all.

it's not. don't like it? don't get it.

move on.

Eighteen years ago, I watched a guy in my apartment complex parking lot take several cans of flat black paint and completely sprayed his perfectly painted metallic brown Camaro. He either committed a crime, cut someone off on the freeway, or really pissed someone off so he didn't want to be recognized on the streets anymore.

When I was a teenager many moons ago my neighbor's son-in-law's car was the first "frozen-esqe" I saw: frozen red Pontiac GTO. He never polished his car to achieve the desired finish.

BTW, no offense to the frozen/vinyl lovers: I'm just old school-- too young when candy apple was vogue; yet, too old for frozen, vinyl, or rainbow colored sprinkles. Too young for Vietnam; and, too old for Desert Storm. We were the Bicentennial generation: neither x, y, nor z!

Yeah, I get it, your car looks cool in a way I guess. FUCKING SICK RIMS. I'm told by the kids "sick" means awesome.
There's no doubt that some of the subtleties are hidden by the flat paint.

It's the same reason I paint my rental apartments with flat paint, it hides the imperfections.

Also, high holy hell would "freeze" over before I would pay *money* of any count, for something that looks unfinished, and is an even bigger pain in the ass to keep looking reasonable.

But keep mind, I drive a 140,000 mile 330i with some battle scars on it, and I live for paint correction and upkeep.

Edit: Also, hell would again freeze over, the great lakes would part, and pigs would fly before I would live in a neighborhood without trees.

couldn't agree more with your comments, you have to see a frozen color car to appreciate its finishing, nothing to do with a primer, it has a metallic satin finish, see another example of a frozen color M3

another example of how a frozen finish best shows off the sculpted body of the E9X M3 every plane, angle and ridge line is all there....even in black! stunning!

again, this may not be your thing. cool. but, you can't say a frozen finish mutes out a designer's sculpt.

honestly.....frozen makes no sense at all. the maintenance required, the care necessary not to scratch/chip or rub the paint too hard is absolutely ridiculous. Wrap the car if you want that matte finish, but then again matte is done as a trend.
