But WOW, nice job.
Yeah, I'm still using my E92 18x10 et25 track wheels, so the most I've run was 275/35x18 RE-71R on both front and back. I'm thinking of getting a staggered setup (18x10 et25 front, 18x11 et44 rear) and getting a M4 specific set.

FWIW, the 265 R1S is super wide, probably wider than 275 NT01.

can you post more footage so we can stop assuming, and proceed to diagnosing exactly what happened leading up to the sphincter closing point. Thank you in advance.

You see I enter the bank at too shallow of an angle, and at 162 mph (indicated).

A noob question, what do you mean by shallow? (I understand the word). Btw that track looks to be quite bumpy.

Yeah, just a mistake on my part. For this session I was concentrating on carrying as much as speed as I could through the turn and didn't track out far enough before the turn began, then a poor attempt to "fix it" here.

Would you share your car set up?
I just did my first track at ACS and I was only able to get 1:58.5 and I struggled with what they call Nascar turn 2.
I'm thinking about JRZ or TC Cline for suspension, I already have the Stoptech BBK and some Dinan stuff (don't remember) and feel free to share your thoughts on my lines:

Thanks!

Hi Caliboy951.

My car's setup for this ACS run was just:

2017 ZCP M4, MT
- every option except for CCB and rear sunshade
Endless ME20 brake pads all around for stock iron disc calipers (Blue paint).
Ground control camber plates
Track oriented alignment:
-3.6 deg front camber
-0.4 deg front toe
-1.8 deg rear camber
0.8 deg rear toe
Fresh (No heat cycles) BF Goodrich R1S tires in 265/35-18

The BF Goodrich tires are pretty heroic when brand new, but they have slick tire characteristics, meaning they will snap oversteer on you if cold and you try to push it, and the sidewalls are soft, meaning when they roll over, the traction dynamics can change suddenly on you which can be unnerving.

I think the only "must have" mod for me at this point that I would like for the car are monoball bushings in the front control arms. There's a lot of shimmying around under heavy braking that the monoballs would control - it's something I have on my E92 and miss on my F82; it adds a ton of confidence to braking because the car isn't squirming around anymore.

I watched your video, and saw a couple things I would do differently though.

ACS is kind of a gut-check track because you're going so fast and have to trust the car's grip level to carry you through some turns to put down a fast time.

I would say a few places it looks like you can carry more speed into the turn. It feels like you're letting off the gas too soon before turn 1 starts. You definitely have the power to get into that turn, but it feels like you're intimidated by it and turn it down a good 400-500m before the turn starts.

You can carry more speed through the turn too, even if you're on crummy street tires. I was running Kumho Ecsta PS91 on my E92 and was able to do 1:54 laps, and still carry a ton of speed through the bank, but again, it's just a gut check, and totally understandable if you don't want to push it through there. Just realize it will cost you a few seconds since it's a huge part of the track.

Not sure what pads you're running, but it feels like you could brake later into turn 3 and still make the turn. I would practice that a little bit seeing what speed you could run through there, but I would just keep in mind that if you "blow" the turn, just to continue on the oval. You don't "have" to turn in, and a lot of people who try to save it end up hitting the wall. I blew this turn a few times but I needed to know what the best braking point was.

I'd say your turn 5-6 is similar to mine - I don't claim to have mastered the best way to go through here, I've just experimented with double apex and hugging as far left as I could go, or late apex on turn 6. I think the fast line that I saw Billy Johnson recommend was double apex both while trail braking.

For the straight, it looks like you're letting off too soon, you can go through that chicane faster. It's just unnerving because of the way it unsettles the car on the final right hand kink that's slightly off camber, but that's another 10-15 mph faster you can go through there.

Also, once you're clear of the chicane, I roll on the power immediately for that little stretch, and then late brake and apex into turn 9.

Turn 12 I feel like you can brake later too, towards the end of the straight it seems like you coast for a couple seconds before getting on the brake. You can carry enormous speed through there - I hit 133 mph on the back straight before braking. Still feel like I can brake even later through there too, that was one corner I feel like I could pick up some tenths through.

For the "parking lot area" of 16-17-18-19 I think you can carry more speed through the left hand turn. Getting as much speed as you can to set yourself up for the bank is critical here because a faster exit speed means less time through the long straight and bank.

Hope that helps! I don't claim to be the master on this track, but look up Billy Johnson's walkthrough of this track:

Haha, it might be a while - that wall definitely scared the crap out of me, so I'll need to build my confidence back up! Important thing is to not push it further than you're comfortable with. I met someone at the track who described the oval as something that tested how much you loved your wife and kids. This is absolutely true.

Yessir, fully off. I think it's impossible to drive as fast as the car can go with traction control on.

AIM Solo DL with OBD-II cable. Had a friend make the RaceRender template for me. Only drawback is I don't have brake pedal input.

not what I wanted to see before next weekend there! I went for my first time about 1.5 months ago or so with speed ventures. I honestly am surprised they allow random people to drive at 150 mph around a huge nascar oval lol. I didn't really know what to do other than watching videos I stayed high up to enter the oval but otherwise just pinned the throttle. In my e92 that got me up to 150ish and I kept it pinned the entire way. I realizied later after watching videos many people life. I probably would have lifted had I watched that but didn't know better at the time.

My e92 on 265/245 re71 r, no aero and stock suspension felt fine so I don't think its a matter of needing better suspension.
