Read PunjabiM3 post:

"This leads me to the last major issue I had with the AMG: the build quality. The interior on the AMG is gorgeous IMHO, it has better tech than the M3, better sound system, etc. The fit and finish on both cars is excellent at eye level, but the car had so many minor rattles and squeaks on those rough roads that it felt like I was not driving a luxury car period. The M3, in contrast, does have a few very minor squeaks already, but nowhere near the level of what I experienced in the AMG."

http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1336392

then go on the amg forum and do some of your own searches.

fyi I had a w204 c63 with a sunroof rattle, and the dealer told me "we don't cover rattles".

i also have rattles in both my m cars, and EVERY car I have ever owned.

The only car that barely rattles is my wife's gs350, but then that car has at least 3 different leather materials in 1 car, the leather is starting to fade at 18k miles, tons of cheap plastic, you can see screws on the steering column, etc.

Ha you beat me to it. Have had my M3 now for almost two months, have put 1000 miles on her. I really do not have any rattles, perhaps some very small ones when going over large bumps. In contrast, my 2016 C63S AMG had a LOT more rattles and suspension noises. Two parts of my normal drive that stick out:

1. When dropping off my son at school, there is a railroad crossing that is pretty rough. On the M3, there are definitely a few rattles when driving over the tracks at 20mph. On the AMG, the entire car felt like it rattled and there were also suspension noises, as if the suspension was crashing.

2. There is an intersection close by to our home with a marked crest in the road. Speed limit on the three lane road is 45MPH, so typically I drive through this intersection around that speed or slightly more. It is rather pronounced, but not sharp if that makes sense. In the AMG, it really upset the suspension when going over the crest; one could definitely feel that the car/chassis did not have proper dampening as for whatever reason it could not absorb that crest in the road. If I was driving with the adaptive cruise control on, it would always upset the car enough to have cruise control cancel on its own. In the M3, it is still something that you can feel, but it definitely handles the crest in the road much better; never does it feel overly stiff and harsh going over that crest as it did in my AMG.

I think both are great cars, but in my experience the AMG definitely has a harsher ride and more rattles. I believe these rattles in the AMG to be perhaps due to improper engineering or insufficient testing on subpar roads when the vehicle was being developed. I do not think it is an indication of poor build quality at the factory, its just a design flaw perhaps. I firmly believe the AMG has better tech: adaptive cruise control, much better surround view camera system, better instrument panel (TFT display between speedo and tach is great), power opening and closing trunk, button for valves in performance exhaust, comfort access on rear door handles (so annoying in M3), etc. You really can't go wrong with either, just remember both cars have their strengths and weaknesses.

So you went back to M lol So far I have around 14k on my C63s and drive it everyday to and from DC so roads are not ideal. I've had car looked at for screen creaking noise and something in the back. Both were addressed and now cars is almost (some very light creaks in window seal front passenger side) silent but its definitely harsh to some which I actually like. Recent tire change to Michelins AS3+ helped with that issue. There is no way I'm letting this car go unless it start giving me headaches all of a sudden, that engine/sound and the entire package is heavenly.

it's all relative, some people drive evo 10's and jump on forums saying they have no rattles, but others like me, well......completely rebuild the interior

F82s don't rattle nearly as much because of the door frames (or lack of a door frame). F80 rattles a lot more because of the door frames, which is the cause of most of the issue. It is the same with a standard F30. My F30 started rattling worse and worse until I had my dealership take care of it about 3 times to completely eliminate all of the rattling.

The coupes don't rattle, the sedans do.

My F82 had zero rattles on ED then they started creeping in. First front dash trim, then door cards, then center armrest, then rear child restraints, then side vents, then... See a pattern? But I stayed on top of them with DIY forum help (thanks guys!). If I didn't do anything then my car would be unbearable!
This weekend I'm working on the instrument cluster and phone cradle.
The fight against rattles is never ending!

My car rattles but I have no idea how to pinpoint the source. It sounds like it's right next to me

PunjabiM3 you do know all you have do is use the lower tire pressures to solve the crashing issue right? I went from BMW 335 to driving M4 back to back was going to get one, but honestly C63S was sold on me almost instantly. Car vs Car I chose the C63S and mine doesnt rattle. And maybe it is just perception.

Bro this isn't my first rodeo. I had the tire pressures set to I believe 37 front and 33 rear on the C63S. I believe the label on the gas cap door states 38F and 33R under normal load, so believe me I did not have the pressures set too high as sometimes the dealerships do. I even changed the tires from the stock Dunlop to Continental DW as I know they are a softer riding max performance tire. The change made the ride better, but only slightly. Perhaps roads are different in the area you live in and perhaps you just got lucky that yours does not rattle, but on mine the difference is noticeable compared to the M3 ZCP I replaced it with. Is yours a coupe or a sedan? Mine was the sedan; perhaps the coupe is better in the rattle department? I know the suspension in the C63S coupe is different from the sedan, and from what I have read the coupe rides noticeably better.

Mine is sedan too. A colleague bought the coupe and complains about rattles. IMHO I'd prefer way way softer ride in comfort mode for local roads but I also felt the M4 was even harsher still around here. There are times on the highway I want sport+ exactly as it is, but problem is too many completely crap roads with man hole sized potholes. I think the problem is they tune these cars in Germany on the autobahn. Wonder if they are getting feedback from owners on it. I guess its hit or miss on both sides of the fence.

I do want a sports car, but there many occasions I want it to ride very soft.

You will get squeaks and rattles from a C63 especially the W205 C63. Its unfortunate but today's sports cars like C63, M3 will likely develop rattles especially under less smooth driving surfaces. Get the dealer to fix your M3's if possible.

Just curious and if you don't mind sharing to us. How much were you able to sell the M3 (trade-in value or retail value)? I might do it too since this intermittent ticking issue (like a wood pecker) when the car is off is annoying me. Tech cannot duplicate the issue.

There isn't anything much about it.

Just tell your SA your car is squeaking and rattling when driving in certain situations. They will verify your claims and fix it if it does show up.

YOU have to tell your SA, they won't go out of their way to make sure it isn't rattling. If you don't bring it up, they won't do a thing about it. It is just a bulletin, it isn't an urgency bulletin where the SA will check and notify you there is something they have to do.

That's the problem with ppl online lately. So many complain about little things it's amazing you don't do your own research and figure out a solution instead of constantly whining on the forums. Not directing that at you btw the person I replied to, I mean just in general.
