Great!

But can someone please give me a reason why I wouldn't pick up a 991 GT3 for the same money?

Taking after the E92 M3 GTS, the lightweight M4 is rumored to feature two seats only, more power, less weight (target below 1400 kg / 3086 lb) and manual transmission only.

The only reason I can see is the manual transmission. Now if it was a 4-door M3 with a rear seat they didn't have to take on the herculean task to compete with the mighty 991 GT3 for buyers. I wish car makers would understand that a life long passion for hard core cars doesn't die just becuase we have kids and not all of us think it's a good idea or financially feasible to buy a $100k plus car and keep it in the garage 6 days out of seven in the week. We want more 4-door proper sports cars!

These are the types of special editions that I can get behind fully. The ones that offer nothing but an aesthetics package are the ones that are a waste of time.

That aside, I doubt this thing will be MT-only, especially considering that it likely won't come to the US (though I certainly hope that it will). I hope they do something for the F80 as well, along the same line as the CRT.

This is cool and all... and I like the new M4/3... but I don't get warm and fuzzy about BMW putting a GT on a diet to celebrate it's 100th.

The car that really made the company was the 2002 and first gen 3 series.

Make a CFRP-heavy, 4cyl, 6spd M2...one to rival the M4. Make 100 of them. Sell one to me. Then move on.

If it does not come to US then we need to organize a boycott or storm the German Embassy in New York or wherever it is located.

+1, +1.

Sorry folks but when performance actually matters, DCT >> MT.

If this car makes it to our country, they should price it below new GT3.
At near GT3 price almost every potential buyer will go for the porsche.
We will see how close this car will come to GT3 performance wise, but i doubt it will be nearly as fast as a track car.
I would pay $100k

I would just throw a GM LS7 in it instead.....

What does that even mean?

It's about the experience - not the statistics.

I've said this before... but I'll say it again... with certainty there will come a day that an M3 will be able to drive itself, in any context, faster than you can. Then what? Are you going to come on here and say:

Self Drive >> 6MT

No shit.

At the end of the day, raw performance needs to be balanced by driver engagement... otherwise you end up with something slightly more interesting than a video game (or an MB)...

Save the $75k and go buy an Xbox.

*Consider an expression describing the number of special editions as a function of time f(t)....

* in best richard feynman voice

Seriously though, a lot of cosmetic special editions at the end of the E9X M lifecycle...

I hope it comes in manual only. Thats how the Z4MC, S2000, etc came...The NSX should have been offered in manual only as well.

I might consider this if it really becomes available. DCT/automatics are for the X5's. I love it on my X5, no way would I want an automatic sports car, regardless.

A 2011+ Gallardo looks more enticing though than a 4 series car.

That's what everyone says, but Porsche is able to bring VERY low volume cars like the GT3-RS 4.0, Cayman R, Boxster Spyder here. I never understand why BMW can't do the same. I'm thinking the GTS would be a LOT chepaer if they made 500-1,000 and imported them here.

LOL. So true, and don't forget the limited run "Frozen" colors. Maybe the next limited run will be the "Road Atlanta Edition."

Rumored to cost $180,000!!!!
I hope what I read is wrong.

They should make a stripped out track focused M2 with the M4 motor as the anniversary car.
