Question Tire Exposing White Under-layer?

I posted this over in the G01 subforum, but I know there is more foot traffic here:
This is a new one for me...
As I was cleaning my X3 M40i this weekend, I noticed one of my OEM Pirelli Winters appears to be peeling the black outer layer and exposing the white underneath. No the tire has not been curbed or unmounted. It is about 2" in length along the bead. Not sure if this something to concern myself with (cosmetic?) or a potential problem down the road? Tires have about 1200 miles on them and no loss in psi.

Anyone ever experience the same?

Tough to tell from the pic, but are you sure it isn't left over residue from mounting the tire?

Yeah, hard to get a good pic of it. But no, it is not mounting residue. I could actually take a small screwdriver and peel between the layers (actually nicked my rim by doing so--dumb ass me)

Hard to tell, but it could be a barcode label. Some manufacturers put them on the tire bead.

Yeah, I know what you mean about where the barcode sticker is sometimes located, but this isn't the sticker. I can actually stick the tip of a flathead screwdriver between the outer black layer and this now exposed white layer

For me it was when valet slightly curbed my wheels. Literally was at the shop getting it fixed next morning.

Valets suck. They wrecked my 437s recently and my dumbass didn't notice till it was too late.

yeah i learned my lesson. I don't even take the pictures myself; i have the valet person take them with my phone and hand me my phone before he gets inside the car. This way there is absolutely zero argument to be had.

At least the tire isn't bad and it wasn't a safety issue.

i'd be more worried about that blue stuff on the rim. that's visible to the naked eye. can't believe you missed that but noticed the white stuff!!
