here is the thing with getting a hot flashy color like Austin yellow.. Its all fun now when the new m4/m3's are so hot on the market, but personally in a couple years when more of these cars are on the road, the color will get old. I personally almost pulled the trigger on an AY but I knew in a years time, I would say "what was I thinking...?"

MG MB MW are all beautiful timeless colors that I personally would never get sick of.

In 5 years from now when AY is long gone, People will say, BMW made an M4/M3 that gold color!?!? resale also be a bit on the soft side.

In the end, buy what you like, not what you think is cool at the moment.

Just my 2cents.

I don't agree. First, there's hardly any M3s on the road anyway. Other than mine, I come across maybe one or two a month. Then, considering the AY will be only for the M3 and only for some of them I think you won't be seeing very many of these at all.

Second, this color reminds me very much of Phoenix Yellow on the E46 M3. We made fun of it (dark mustard yellow, baby poop yellow, etc.) but IRL it was a stunning color. I didn't have one, but I think the color grew on me anyway. I believe AY to be the same. Granted, I haven't seen AY yet except in pictures.

Would I get one? No. It's going to get too much attention. If I decide I want attention I will get a Corvette.

Cheers.

Initially, BMW made these colors to draw more attention on the shows. It was not build like something exclusive, gold is just a good eye catcher and that's it. I've been thinking to get this color since new M's were announced.
First, it seems like a really hot color, but then you realize that it's too childish and doesn't fit to the status of BMW. As myself, i would not mind to drive AY for like a couple days for fun, but for DD i think it's too flashy. I drive a lot everyday and don't want see people staring at me every second. I don't car so much about people's opinion, but still AY can draw some problems and pain on your ass.
One thing that i really hate in all typical colors (BS,MG, AW), they have some problems with a contrast of the CFB roof or detailing. The flashy colors show details of the car and contrast of the roof. That's only one benefit. In case of BMW, i would make all these flashy colors in matte, may be people would appreciate these colors more then..

Still sounds like a burping kazoo on video. I need to hear it in person.

I was thinking the exact thing. Glad someone jumped to that immediately. Also reminds me of LSB on the E46 and even the Technoviolet on the E36.

Absolutely. Dakkar Yellow, LSB, and Techno Violet have all aged really well. If I were in the market for an E36 or an E46 I'd definitely be after the more uncommon colors. AY and YMB will be no different. For every enthusiast who hates these colors there's another one who's madly in love with them.

I couldn't have said it better myself. They will be sought out in the future. (probably long after my ownership, but mark my words: They will.)

Sat in an M4 today and blipped the throttle... in person! Sounds bloody fantastic! Vids don't do it justice. Throttle response is good, rapid, no turbo lag like my Audi... but I will try again and see if I can nail RPM without the turbo creeping it up.
I agree with the comments regarding AY being too loud a colour. Would you consider SO too loud as a DD? Sakir Orange is growing on me (plus it contrasts nicely with the CF roof), but worried it will draw too much attention as a DD.
Thoughts appreciated.

Where is this lion you spoke of? I barely heard a rumble. Instead we are having an AY debate...

When it starts up in the video it sounds like a lion. I am able to scare deer away from the side of the road by revving the S65 in my M3, when the horn wouldn't work. And I'm now not worried anymore that I can do the same thing in an F8x M3/4.

BTW, SO is even louder than AY. So there!

Cheers.

lol, since when do corvettes get attention>?

In my eye's, they get as much attention as a mustang.

I always thought of them as a poor man's Ferrari. Very Hillbilly-ish and for years they were the most ugly cars.. excluding vintage of course.

Only until recently with the new models did I start to like them.
GM absolutely did a fantastic job with the new corvette. They are NOW stunning. But I still wouldn't want to buy one.. There are other cars I would much rather have.

I don't think I have ever seen a corvette complete without some twat driving it with a matching corvette jacket, corvette hat, corvette pant's.. All the gear. It just kills me.

Here in the bay area I see a ton of older M3s and it's the flashy colors that look the best and most vintage imho... Who wants a 15 year old black e46?

People want them and they look like the best - I probably wouldn't buy that color new but it's what I'd want in 8 years
