Switching to steel provides a smaller diameter shaft allowing for a particulate filter to be placed in the free space in the tunnel.

The Petrol Particulate Filter reduces the emissions. It's the location it will be installed that is in conflict with the existing CF Driveshaft. A smaller diameter CF unit cannot meet the necessary torque load requirements. It's either go with steel or end production (and scrap all the cars built in the past 3 weeks as well). Which option sounds better?

It's all first world problems. I want a red M3. Not Sakhir Orange, red. More Candy Apple Red. I could order one, and get a color that's close (Flaminco Red), but now I'm adding about $10K to the price. I could get my old one stripped and resprayed in actual Candy Apple Red - but then what's the resale like on an Individual vs a custom respray? I don't want to invest $10 or $15 grand into a paint job that reduces the value of the car...
I know other people have been telling you otherwise but in reality, it depends on who you sell to.

First, cars are typically not investments and will devalue over time regardless so it isn't worth worrying about resale values if your looking to get the most enjoyment out of your car for several years.

Most people will look for completely stock with low miles and no accidents. If people can't find that combination, they will look for low miles with no accidents in the color of their preference. They may even prioritize color over miles if the car has a great maintenance history and no accidents.

Painting your car a different color is expensive but if done without cutting corners and you don't get some ugly color, it may actually help you sell your car. However, wrapping may make the most economical sense and allows the car to be returned to stock if the desire is there.

Performance mods and more extreme aesthetic mods on the other hand can go either way in terms helping or hurting you when trying to sell your car later on.

Going back to my original point, a car is not an investment. Try to get the most enjoyment out of it or replace it with something that fulfills you.

Same here. I was forced to put the order in because I wanted the carbon piece.

Placed my order now - scheduled for 1st week of October.

Now that's marketing.... I swear after all this effort I bet you the reviews come back that the steel shaft somehow has improved performance lol.

I did some investigation and those carbon fibre issue seem relatively isolated to those 2 threads on the internet. I'm sure one could dredge up more but it's not all over the place like well documented flaws are. A lot of that thread was to do with ex BMW drive day cars or whatever you call them....

Have spoken to independent BMW repairers who weren't aware f any issues and they tune m cars regularly. the dealer is checking out the PUMA as well....

Hopefully that'll mean we're in the clear...

I couldn't get the contrast orange stitching and get my car in the last production day of the carbon shafts. I'm week 43 build confirmed carbon fibre shaft in writing from BMW.

I have week 40, maybe I should delay mine to 43. Week 43 is 10/16. Still another full week in October after that.

Who did you contact to confirm that yours would be carbon fiber? Was it just BMW USA? Or your local dealer?

I'm not surprised at all. If I didn't already have my car I'd be pissed. The CF driveshaft, along with the CF roof, strut brace, and trunk are STILL being touted on their USA website as prime performance features. In many industries this is called bait-and-switch and is illegal. I'm sure their attorneys have made sure that isn't the case here, and yes, of course, you can vote with your wallet and buy another car. But to be surprised that people who love the car "as advertised" are upset about getting something somewhat different is a little naïve to me.

BMW in Australia.

These 2018 zcp with carbon fibre shafts are a very limited run.

It’s all over the net from November 1st the cf shafts are being replaced in all markets to my understanding.

I wouldn’t go delaying... if I google week 43 I get October 23rd on one site and 27th on another. I don’t know any specifics about BMW week numbers?

Also I would imagine the CF drive shaft isn’t the first thing when they start production, so naturally a cf drive shaft car would need to start production before the changeover date.

I registered with BMWUSA last night to check the status. How the hell do you do it? The car shows up, but that's all I see and the sticky ordering thread doesn't specifically say how to check.

I guess from the 1st quoted post I'm out of luck. lol I believe whatever the build week is that means your car will be finished that week, not start.

If your build week is week 43, that means your car in on track to finish production by at least October 29th. Basically production week equals the last week of your cars production.
