When will Dinan Stage 3 be out for the F80/82?

I recently got the Dinan Stage 2 which has produced a noticeable increase in power. However, I'm eagerly awaiting the ability to upgrade to Dinan stage 3 which supposedly will include upgraded turbos. Dinan says they're working on it but I have not heard a release date. Does anyone have a sense for when this might be on the market?

Wow. I hope you're right, but I highly doubt that Dinan is working on upgraded turbos. They are generally not that aggressive to replace parts of BMWs standard engine components. Add-on, yes, but not replace. There's too much liability, with what they cover.

Upgraded turbos are offered on their other platforms and they have said it is coming for this platform.

I checked and didn't even see N55 turbos. I'd think S55 would be a while then. Maybe I missed something. Also, they most likely don't do the work, it is probably outsourced to some turbo rebuild/design company. also alz0rz if you know of the turbos being part of a performance package, that'd be good to know, it looks like they are standalone. Anyway, of the little I read, I think you are a year out.

Their n55 solution is scheduled for release this spring IIRC, They said they have a m4 that they will begin working on upgrading the turbos on soon.

A stage 3 upgrade, turbos, is likely, as I hear it. If the S3 will carry the full BMW matching warranty is the question. They might consider it a "race/track" option that will not have the traditional coverage, though the parts themselves will carry a Dinan warranty, a 2 yr manufactures coverage is my guess.

Let me be clear...I'm speculating here, based on a few conversations I've had with some folks connected to the company who themselves were just spitballing.

I love speculation as much as the next guy and as a marketing guy the random buzz that is generated is great and all but you guys could just ask the question to the company directly instead of speculating yanno....

Stage 3 w/ big turbos is coming. I have no ETA or specs however as development on the S55 big turbos is still pretty early on. We are also more heavily focused on closing out the N55 big turbo program that will be released here in the near future (working with the turbo vendor on the core program/issues at the moment but development is basically done) as well as swapping out the current/old N54 program over to the new vendor as well. The stage 3 / big turbo solution will carry the same BMW matching new car warranty and will also be designed to be emissions legal in all 50 states (probably not at launch as the paperwork process takes forever but nonetheless that is the plan).

The further intent down the line; and by the time the S55 big turbos come out it may come out concurrently, would be to offer a stage 4 / race map at the same time that would be designed to take full advantage of race fuel on the big turbo setup. A lot of warranty questions come up with that topic though which haven't been fully addressed yet.

I don't see how you are going to warranty the S55 turbos, considering upgraded hybrid N54 turbos has a reliability score of 0 almost.

Okay, lets clarify... Dinan would match the factory new car warranty with our upgraded turbo/tuning package if done within our spec (OE/Dinan Components).
We will not cover incidentals with issues related to running the turbo out of our spec with downpipes, meth, someone elses tuning solution, etc. In that case you would be on your own just like with any other vendor.

Our goal is to offer a total warrantied/legal solution. If you want to go outside of that, that is your perogative but not the intent of this package.

It is nice to see Dinan on the site and posting (not that I would expect anything less). There are a few good supporting vendors here and it is good that the bellwether is contributing, adding value and giving us an idea of potential things to come. Thanks!

I stand by Dinan products 100%. Is it worth the money? YES! It's good to know that there is a company that does hours...days, weeks...months...even years of research on a single product. THAT is very important to someone like me...I'm super-duper picky...I wouldn't trust anything besides Dinan and ESS for my tuning.

Hopefully you release this soon. I only have 3 years left on my BMW/Dinan warranty. I want to enjoy this upgrade before the warranty runs out!

Any price estimates for the stage 3 yet? Will it be compatible w/ the new ZCP cars?

No price estimates currently. Still way to many variables at play.

As far as ZCP compatibility... I would imagine the turbos would be the same between the 2 so therefore the bigger turbos would be interchangeable. The only difference would be the tune itself I would presume. Until we see one in the shop though its purely speculation.

Dinan, what will be required (parts) from you to go to stage 3? Is it built off stage 2, (tune, intake and exhaust)?

Still being worked out-- intercooler, aftercooler, etc are all being tested in conjunction with the big turbos to ascertain what is reasonably needed to run the bigger turbos effectively and reliably for the long haul. Whether or not it be offered as a full complete package bundle, separate pieces, or if any of these additional parts are ultimately required at all remains to be seen.

While we wait for stage 3, I Wish dinan would come up with a 100 octane tune in the mean time for their stage 1 and stage 2 customers. The way I see it, 100 octane would leave more room for safety VS 91 oct if they don't max out the boost (as they normally don't max out their boost anyway). I see why stage 4 would benefit more from 100 oct, but there is still some power left untapped with 91 oct and stage 2.
