Car: 2017 M4 ZCP
Track: Sonoma Raceway
Best Lap Time: 2:03.37 (wet) & 1.49.47 (semi-dry)
AST5200, AP 9668, E85, PS4s/slicks

First time driving in the wet and it was a lot of fun. Would've liked heavier rain but only had a consistent drizzle. I'm super impressed with the PS4s tire - next fastest time in my group was 2:10. Everyone was struggling with grip and at certain areas on the track there was zero issues with traction at WOT.

I bet they are. I'm a full 3 seconds behind you in a stock M3 on stock tires. Tires are the limiting factor (along with camber) at this point, but I'm remedying these. I'm there on the 22nd, and I'll still be running stock rubber but with camber plates to see the difference that that makes. I have quite a few sessions this summer there, so I want to see the incremental improvements.

I would not worry too much about being a few seconds behind the M2, esp. one that has been modified. A modified car (M2/M3) will have much better transitional movement and performance. Tires are not the biggest limiting factor either IMO, as you can run a pretty quick lap on Michelin street tires (w/camber or suspension modifications). Just adding camber plates will improve your times pretty significantly.

Driver
Camber (considering this independent of suspension)
Suspension
Tires
Brakes

TY, and trust me I’m not worried about it. The prize at the end of a HPDE is a undamaged car and better driver. I’m happy with my 1:04:81 in a fully stock car.

I agree that camber will be a big change, this is why I’m doing it (in the same order you list) incrementally. I really want to see the difference each makes.

Switching out of PSS to something a little more track worthy should net you about 2 seconds at LRP. Camber plates have been somewhat helpful with tire wear in my experience.

I'll be there on the 22nd as well. Feel free to stop by and say hello.

Camber is the big key for me. I was managing my tires through 3 sessions (20ish minutes each) at Lime Rock and I corded a new set of fronts (left only, but the right was toast too as I switched them after 2 sessions.) To push the car further, I need my tires to not disintegrate.

I have the plates in, with a mild street/track alignment. Let's see if I can push a bit more on the stock tires before that upgrade.

I'll stop by when there, what run group are you in?

Camber is certainly a component to good tire wear on these macpherson strut front ends. But at the pace you are running, getting the right tire is equally important. In my experience PSS is a fantastic street tire but only a decent mild / beginner track tire. Intermediate / advanced pace will start trashing the tire prematurely.

I had really poor tire wear with PSS and even after upgrading to SC2. A handful of sessions to chord SC2s on stock suspension and maybe 4 track days to destroy SC2s running almost 3 degrees of camber. I'm having better luck with my current set of NT01s.

I'll be instructing on the 22nd.

OK, I have the big board updated for the most part. PM me if you see any errors or omissions. Keep in mind, I usually just keep your best lap time for any particular track, so your older/slower times might get written over.

Thanks so much to those of you that post your time on one line with all your info like TWT did above. It makes it much easier to just copy and paste it to the big board instead of having to sift through your post manually.

Other news is that I currently do not own an M4 anymore, the Porsche people took it. I do still plan to maintain the board for the foreseeable future. After all, I wouldn't be surprised if I got another M4 again in the next couple of years. Happy Tracking!

Watkins Glen

2:11.47

DCT M4
MPSS tire
Ferodo ds3000 pads on AP stillen BBK

Otherwise all stock. No clean lap the whole event actually, could run into 2:10s or 2:0x in better weather. It was 90+ that day. Second time to the Glen, also need to improve the line. Stock suspension is too bad for glen's curbing.

PS: has the wing but set to lowest/street level, car is understeering and no need for back aero.

Wrong type of Subaru for that day. We lost 5 cars in a single run group. 2 BRZ and 3 e36 M3's. A bad day to run unless you were just going slow and perfecting the line.

Lol, were u talking about the day with GVC BMWCCA? I only know an e36 crash at esses plus mine hit the wall exiting bus stop the session before. Takes me $50 to fix that crash. Not too bad. I left the sunday morning though. Had one session in snow with NT01 and not fun.

I remember your car. You missed the fun later. People were pushing it when they shouldn't.
